Vararam on daily driver?
If you are concerned about engine wear and are not racing, you might want to go with peace of mind and stick with the stock paper filter system.
A filter that repels water will have absolutely no effect on a running engine (any water touching the filter is coming through anywhere there is an opening).
Just checked their site: they offer a "Super Street" version air filter ( http://www.vararam.com/products01.html ). However, you can trap 2 micron particles with chicken wire (not a good measure of filtration capability). Filtration capability needs to have both time and mass components (efficiency), not just smallest filtration particle size. You can also find lots of information on air and oil filter theory using Google.
If you live in a relatively clean area, it may not make a significant difference. Since the Vararam people offer a money back guarantee (not including labor or shipping), you could do an oil analysis before purchasing, install a Vararam, drive the car daily for about 21 days, have an overnight oil sample performed (about $20 for the test), and keep the Vararam if the oil does not show signs of higher silica and other materials common with dirt ingestion.
