Ordered my CCWs today...black centers with polished lips.
They should be done in about a week-two.
When they get on the car....the car is immediatley going to ECS for MODS!!!!
Its getting a TC and Tranny Upgrade. Chris reccomends Yank. And I know a lot of people on here like the Yank but I know of 2 Tuners I have talked to who say they dont like/use Yanks because they tend to have problems with them vs using others like PT or Vigilante.
Cartek and F-Body Central both said they dont like the Yank...F Body said they took one out of a car and cut it in half to examine it and it was all messed up in the inside.
What do you guys think about this...is it more just a personal preference or have people out there had probs with the Yank TC.
Im 99% going with the Yank because Chris reccomends it and I keep hearing all you guys loving yours....so look at my mods in the sig...which TC would you get.
The only other mod I plan to do is a Cam...than later on a SC.
TC needs to be able to do street driving...I do race but most of my miles are from the street. The car isnt a daily driver but still want it streetable BUT dont forget I do want maximum performance without being too wild.
Re: Question on Yank TCs...Need Your Input (USMUSCL)
Just got mine installed at ECS and love it. As far as reliability issues I guess for me it would me too soon to tell. The overall difference is amazing though, you won't be disappointed.
Re: Question on Yank TCs...Need Your Input (C5JONNY)
The problems with Yank converters were mostly with the converters designed for the F.Bodies not the C5. I have the Yank ST3500 and so far no problems, the ST3500 in F.Bodies was one of the converters that was troublesome. The main knock I have heard about Yank is their customer service leaves alot to be desired if you have a problem with your converter.
Re: Question on Yank TCs...Need Your Input (USMUSCL)
If you go to the webb site ( converter.cc ) you will learn alot about Yank, take the time to look at all the pages, very informative. Keep in mind this is a Yank webb site so it may be biased, but it is very informitive. This helped me in making my decision. I have a Yank, but I'm not endorsing it one way or the other, as I have no experience with other brands. My experience when talking to other companys was that they weren't willing to answer all my questions to my satisfaction. Yanks webb site did. I have the SY3500 & it performs as advertised in my opinion, no surprises. I like no surprises when it comes to spending my money. Good luck
Re: Question on Yank TCs...Need Your Input (USMUSCL)
thanks for the responses...
Mitch: Why did you choose the ST3500 over the SY3500?
Whats the main diff between the 2?
I chose the ST3500 because it has a higher STR 2.5 compared to the SY3500s 1.65. The higher STR is better if you will be using DRs or ET Streets at the track. It gives a harder hit to the tires and should be better out of the hole with good traction. The higher STR should also make the converter feel tighter, a converter with a lower STR should be better if you will be running street tires for the most part.

USMUSCLE:
GReat name man especially for what's about to go down any minute now! :smash:
I have to admit, you are starting to get close to RED COUPE BANDIT in the never ending quest of trying to pull the trigger on a torque converter but not having done so yet.:D You guys are killing me! (LOL)
I've had 2 Yanks and they both have been great and i think you will be good to go with that choice. The Vigilante converters are also excellent converters and i would probably just follow the advice of what your tuner recommends and is comfortable with.
Re: Question on Yank TCs...Need Your Input (90 droptop)
Call Dave at Cartek...I am running a new TC that they are using, and pulled some low 1.6 (1.60-1.66) 60-foots this weekend on drag radials. This TC also has very good street manners, if you'll be at the next Corvette Challenge I'll let you drive my car around the lot a little so you can see how it drives.
Re: Question on Yank TCs...Need Your Input (USMUSCL)
I've had the PT2400 and the PT2800..both excellent converters for the street..great customer service and warranty is more than adequate IMO...BUT..I needed a higher stall for my new stroker and 3.73's and went with the new YANK SS3800...Although I have limited experience with the converter it certainly has delivered what I expected and although Mike Senia IS hard to reach..when you do reach Mike he is very knowledgeable and eagar to please...:D Give Mike a call and discuss your needs...He can help!:D

Great comment here. I chose the SY3500 for exactly those same reasons.
I don't track my car and I'm running street rubber, not DR's, so the 1.65
stall is much more to my liking.
Re: Question on Yank TCs...Need Your Input (REDGAR)
K...So what about the SS3800 VS ST3500?
Main differences?
For the track...I do have DRs but the car is mainly street driven will go to track some times but not a whole lot.
