Default Installing a differential

I'm buying a 3.73 differentrial for a 6 speed coupe. Has anyone installed one? I do not have a hoist, but have worked on different cars all my life. Do I need any special tools? Any pictures would be great, any advice would be great!!!

I did myself and it is not technically difficult, but in retrospect I doubt I would do it on my back. The rear carriage is quite heavy and the car would have to be quite high to get the carriage out. That would make the rest of the job "uncomfortable".

I did mine myself along with pulling the trans to install a Yank Sy 3500 T/C. I put mine on jack stands about 16" high on all four corners. The only special tools needed was a portable transmission jack. All bolts/nuts are metric with the largest being 24mm (I think). After I removed the rear carraige assembly I lowered the trans and rearend with the torque tube still installed. Care must be taken not to let the engine contact the firewall or damage could occur. Mike Mercury and Corvette Fever (April 2001 edition) has excellent instruction with pics. That is what I used. I'm sure he'll respond to this thread but you can also do a search. Good Luck! :steering:

I did my own. No special tools needed. I used two 2 1/2 floor jacks. One for the transmission one for the cross member. . Do not remove axles from hub and disconnect the upper joint only. The axles will come out with the crossmember. Good luck.
