Clem, you stated that the Nascar engines only make 400 hp and only turn 6800 rpm. Every race I've seen they are turning 9000 rpm easy. I know that Nascar engines are built differently than dragstrip engines and made to spin higher. Can you elaborate on your 6800 rpm statement? Thanks

Jim is absolutely right. If you drive your car on the street and don't beat the s@#% out of it (and maybe even if you do), pretty much any high quality oil will give good service. If you're spending significant hours on the track, you may want to think about a higher viscosity oil. If for no other reason than to cut down on the quantitiy of oil expelled through the tailpipes. To tell you the truth, I'm a little surprised this thread has gotten so much attention.

400hp is a restictor plate motor

750 + in an open motor.

I've also been recommended by my tuner to run 15W50 in the summer/on track but like a previous speaker said I guess it depends in the manufacturer also!

Anyone have specific brands they recommend based on heavy use/racing?
Amsoil, Red-line etc?

You just said it... "If for no other reason than to cut down on the quantitiy of oil expelled through the tailpipes."

So if higher viscosity helps this..then why not?
