With the Blackwing, you will hear the exhaust note change to deeper and louder instantly, so it must be doing something. After reading posts like these for 2 years, I will step out on a limb and give my view of the best in order of HP gain:
Vararam and Halltech Siderwinder (tied for 1st)
Vortech Rammer and Proflow (tied for 2nd)
Blackwing and Twin Flow (tied for 3rd)
Ty-rap stock paper or K&n filter (I tried this, It works!)
I'm no track racer, but I can tell you that the main reason I decided to do a air intake mod was because it was apparent after driving my Vette for 6 months that it needed to breathe better. The Blackwing eliminated the gurgling sound/feel that I experienced during acceleration. The responsiveness of the engine is better, and there is noticable increase in power. It should be noted that I am having an affair with my car, so that may be why I notice these things. Dont tell my wife.
For all weather driving i love the blackwing, and its good for instant HP over the stock set up.
After reviewing testing on air boxes in the early 90's on prostock drag bike teams including V&H. The bikes made a giant leap forward it ET's in tin duct boxes with no seals to speak of. it is a mater of consant positive preasure with full load frontal mass that works best.
the products ive seen todate for the vettes is no more than a Ram Air system, not a positive presure air box system.
No one can give true results because no one can dyno the systems unless its in a wind tunnel.
