NJVettGuy,

What if I do not "rigidly" fasten the collector tabs? What if I place a grommet or bushing between the collector tab and what it fastens to
I am thinking this would absorb vibrations, and allow the headers to "move" a little instead of breaking the collector tabs

I just got off the phone with Mitch @ FLP a little while ago. I installed a set of FLPs that I've had lying around since December, and after a week and a half of driving I heard a ticking sound underneath the car yesterday morning. I brought the car down to my shop, and put it up on the lift. Upon disassembly, I found that the driver's side tab that bolts on to the bottom of the torque tube near the collector had completely pulled off, leaving a hole in the header. Before disassembly I had seen some black soot around the area, but as soon as I removed the bolt the piece completely fell off. I explained the situation with Mitch, and he stated that he had none in stock right now. So I have to send back my setup, and wait for the new ones to arrive. I applaud him for making the effort, but I wish I would have had these on for the next Corvette Challenge event this weekend.

Is it off that far you can't do this?

Some people had mentioned the collector tabs were a bitch to get aligned. As there should be no tension on these, I loosened the 2 bolts at the top of this mounting bracket. It allows the bracket to move around enough to get the bolts started without force. This had NO EFFECT alining the rest of the exhaust. The PS tab was off by about 1 inch........a sign of some alignment problems down the road, even with the system installed loose........

ALLTHROTTLE&NOBOTTLE,

I was not referring to the alignment issue (if any?) I was voicing an idea for the owners who have had the collector tabs break off and leave a hole in the collector... :cry What do you think??? Pipe dream

Your alignment looks pretty good  I sent my FLPs back for replacement and was wondering how to head off any other issues I will have when I get them back.....

I would not "not use the tabs" because the tabs don't line up or have pulled out of the collector.
If you can't align the tabs by moving the OEM bracket.....there is a problem with the jig FLP's maker is using.... everything has a tolerance, but sometimes tolerance "stackups" can get you (i.e. all the parts are on the + side or - side). Doubt this to be the case, IMHO just plain QA issues.
If you dont use the tabs, this means your system is supported at the header to head & rear cat-back spring mounts and muffler to body mounts if you have them ;)
IMHO not enough support & it will transmit some negative vibrations where they don't belong

I was the person that originally posted the issue when I found it first. As of this post, the installer claims that everything has been taken care of and the replacements (3rd set) are working properly. However, I am still out a grand total of $900 for the labor in this nightmare. I have yet to decide how I really feel about it. I've been talking with Mitch and he's been very apologetic about the problems I had. I've been thinking of asking them if they'll make me a good deal on a dyno-tune as a gesture of good faith.

Ok Mitch we have a major issue with the SECOND set of headers I had installed yesterday...I suggest you contact me asap as I have left a voicemail yesterday!

:mad
it appears that this is a BALD face lie skidmarc?!?!? :smash: :mad

just because you didnt get what you wanted for FREE you attempt to bash and belittle the SUPPORTING vendor.....you asked them to give you a extension on a 10% sale, Mitch did it, you then asked for them for a new set as they SUPPOSEDLY sent you a RUSTY  set of headers??????? then MItch asked for pics, you didnt send them (maybe cuz they werent rusty :bb )

you got another set and you then LIED and said they leaked......BUT a little call the East Coast Supercharging and the question do they leak was asked.....the answer was "no"

If I were a vendor, I would mark this guys name down as someone to NOT do business with

off my rant now.......and I have personal experience with FLP and Mitch, a good guy working for a good company

thanks

RAT, if you dont mind let me just step in here for a second. Marc has been telling me about his problems before he even posted it on the forum so I do not believe he is out and out lying. Silicon should not be used to seal these headers and it is only a temporary fix. If the headers needed silicon than they are defective. I have had my problems with FLP before and they would not listen to me until I went to the forum. After that they got a replacement set out right away. There is 2 sides to every story but without the forum, I would still have a set of beat up headers with a huge gash in them. With all the recent posts I see about FLP and what I conclude from my own experience, its seems more than likely that Marc is not BSing us. Lets just all hope for a happy outcome to this.
