How difficult is it to remove the standard exhaust without damaging it and install a Z06 Ti exhaust on an '01 A4??? I read the install tip but that was for an M6...just curious as to where I need to take it or details.
Thanks in advance. :seeya :chevy :flag
With the A4s you need to put it up on a lift. Either that or you're going to need about 36" of clearance under the rear of the car to manuver the pipes around. Also, you will have to remove the heat shield from the gas tank (don't remember which side) to give you room to get the flange out without cutting. Some people re-use the old gaskets, I think they're cheap enough to buy new, but that's up to you. Shouldn't take more than an hour.

I did the Z06 Ti conversion on my 2000 coupe(M6) as well. I measured 24" clearance under the bottom of the rear crossmember(the rearmost rib) and that was BARELY enough to work them in. I had my jackstands completely extended with 5 sections of 2x8 underneath to get that amount of clearance. You may have other issues since you have an A4, but once the car was high enough it was easy to install.
I did my 03 A4 using jacks/stands. You do have to get at least 34" of clearance for the passenger side muffler to drop straight down to remove from over the axle. It took me 3 "lifts" to get it that high using timbers for blocking under the rearend. I used 2 jacks, one on each side at rear jacking frame points. Put the blocking in the rear under cross member. It is a bit safer and less stress to have someone do it on a lift. I did purchase new gaskets, $7 each. The shield is the thin metal covering on the rear of the passenger side tank. It is not the heavy metal piece that covers and holds up the entire tank. There are several write up articles on various boards as to jacking a C5.
I took my stock system off of my Z and it was right at the limit of being safe in my opinion. If don't see how the heck you can get an A4 36 inches off the ground in a stable manner.. take it to the muffler shop where it will take them 30min to do the job safely
