Default Lost Low End Torque... what's next?

I recently installed TPIS headers and without question I lost low end torque. I can't hardly lay rubber anymore in my 3.15 auto!!! However, when the rpm hits above 3K, it screams!

Steve Cole believes TPIS is to blame and all the programing in the world won't fix that - primaries being too big for stock??? Anyway, what do you guys think - get a stall/gear or a cam to fully utilize my new powerband...

Thanks!

sbkim - do you have a crossover pipe? A crossover pipe will increase low end torque without sacrfice of mid to upper rpm power.

This may not be related to your Question but are those ccw wheels on your car if so what size are the rear and if you dont mind me asking how much were they. I want 17x11 for the rear of mine. Thanks, John

All the posts I 've been reading led me to belive that there is no significant gains to be had with x over pipe. Is it different with aftermarket headers?

It's 18x11. Unfortunately, I can't recall the price - I had them for about 2 yrs now. I belive around $3500 total with tires...

i don't think the problem is the tpis headers. i think you just need to get rid of the powerloader and get a good ls1edit tune.

also, steve cole could (theoretically) have a biased opinion because he sells products that compete with both ls1edit and tpis.

i think you need to go ahead and do stall, gears, and cam (and heads!) anyway. 2800rpm stall, 4.10 gears, and A&A heads and cam. you could be out the door for $8000 (including ls1edit dyno tune). ;)

yeah, ok. At the same time, why don't I slap on TT or supercharger. I got all sorts of money just laying around to spend on this outdated POS car! :)

Now, I am seriously thinking about going back to stock...

Boblk - how much for the 3.42? Are you sure it still works after all that power you been pushing through them ;)

seriously, if it was my car, i would ditch the powerloader, and go with an ls1edit dyno tune from Ed Wright.

i would also consider a gear change. either go with Boblk's 3.42s (i know he offers good deals!), or go with 3.90s or 4.10s.

Joey - I was actually waiting for you to call me - I thought you were out of town. It seems like I have several options:

1. Try out TTS - $600 more, after dumping TPIS
2. Get H/C pkg - $5000
3. Get stall/gears - $2000
4. Go back to stock - $400 (btw, since I cut 2" from stock H pipe, do I need to buy a aftermarket x pipe???
5 Get a different car - $20,000 - $40,000 (GTS, NSX, M3, or even Z06) :nopity

Go with #2 & #3 (3.73's & SS3800), then you can look forward to all the low end torque you and your tires can handle, 1.6? 60' times or less.

I ran TPIS LT's on my 97 Coupe and had great results from them. You should be making more torque because of less back pressure which holds back reciprocating mass....don't even waste your time with an X Pipe..I ran one and given a choice would just put straight pipes in any day...unless the X Pipe somehow is less than having the straight pipe conversion..and I am talking in place of cats..not in the rear..people who believe you get more hp with a rear X Pipe are on the Crack Pipe. Sounds like you have a tuning issue.

Another thing to note is that the advantages of LT headers increase as you open the motor up to breathing better....Heads & Cam, FI, Stroker etc.....You will have more gains with LT headers on a modded motor than a stock motor...no brainer there.
