I was closing the hatch this morning, and I had laid my cell phone down on the area where the driverside hatch latch mechanism is located. Well, when I tried to close the hatch the cell phone blocked the driverside latch from entering the lock fully. Apparently, the driverside lock menchanism tripped and closed, but the driverside latch did'nt make it into the mechanism and lock down in place.
The hatch will now not close on the driverside because the latch mechanism is locked, and it won't open up when I hit the hatch button on the dash.
The passengerside is okay, it will latch closed.
Any ideas on how to reopen the driverside latch mechanism???
Oh, the cell phone survived the hatch closing with no damage, I guess I should be happy about that!
Go down into the latch with a screw driver and lift up the (closed) latch so it is open again. Once it is open you will be able to close the hatch again.
Stick something down in the latch area to simulate the hatch striker and pull while using the key-fob hatch popper at the same time. I used a coathanger once on my Suburban when this happened on my driver door.
The coat hanger did the trick! The lock opened up when I hit the key fob hatch button and pulled up on latch mechanism with the curved end of the coat hanger.
Thank you my corvette breathen, my green beauty is safe and secure once again! :hurray:
I tried this last night.....after many failed attempts, and it worked like a charm. Thank you for saving me endless hours of stress and money. I was so hot that I couldn’t drive her last night.
