98 A4, LS1 edit programming. 1-2 shift is great, but the 2-3 has been degrading over the past 4 months. It runs up and hangs....hitting the rev-limiter and then shifts mushy. We lowered the shift points 100 at a time until at 5700 & raised the rev limiter to 6500 and it dosen't hit the rev limiter now, just valve float but the shift is no better. MPH was adjusted down as well. Experts only please....I'm stumped unless it is clutches/bands finally going. 1-2 is tight and firm, and 3-4 is fine, only the 2-3. Thanks in advance!!
Re: Tranny question for Tranny Tech's.... (TLewis4095)
I would say that you have nuked the 2-3 clutches. Those are usually the first to go. No matter how you adjust the shift points, the clutches are still going to slip causing the shift to stall. Looks like it is time for a rebuild.

I'm certainly no expert Tracy ...BUT..Steve Atkins is of www.eastcoasttransmissions.com :yesnod: You can call him at 954-772-3000. He's in Fort Lauderdale. Your issues sound like the symptoms I experienced just before my transmission toasted..The stock 4L60E transmission is not meant for the stress we put them under, I think you are aware of that..Call Steve ...He will shoot you straight!! Tell him I refrred you...:D
Re: Tranny question for Tranny Tech's.... (vstella)
Just talked to Steve, got a quote & am trying to find the $. We have a B&M race in Bristol next weekend and can't miss it (we run both top eliminator & footbrake in the series.) but we over-spent on the dragster tranny & converter, new Hoosiers for the dragster, & a new trailer......AAAHHHHHH! I need $$$ :yesnod:
Re: Tranny question for Tranny Tech's.... (TLewis4095)
Hi TLewis4095 I have been through your delima and still have tranny problems. In June I had my tranny rebuilt it slipped on the 1-2 . After rebuild it did very well for 4mos .It stated slipping again this time from 2-3shifts so back to shop.Something came lose and it had to be rebuilt again. I have been driving for 6mos now and no problems until this past Friday while out riding my Drive& O/D goes out. :mad I am looking hard at FLP race tranny now. Good luck with your tranny up grade.

Bummer!!! I think some of the best input here is that we need to use proven C5 prefomance tranny builders that have proven their abilities! Good luck!!
Re: Tranny question for Tranny Tech's.... (TLewis4095)
Update:
Just got the car back and it is a world of difference! all clutch packs were shot, a drum was warped, bands delaminating. They built it standard "bullit-proof" with kevlar band, kevlar clutch packs, (9 disks in one that normally has 6?) transgo, etc. man what a difference! You guy's were right on the money.....it was slipping & the clutch packs toast. Thanks!!
Re: Tranny question for Tranny Tech's.... (REDGAR)
Tracy glad you got it all worked out.
How many passes did it make before your rebuild?
Hope I don't need one to later rather than sooner.
Thanks Guy's! The tips were right on, Steve at Est Coast Transmissions had the diagnosis over the phone right on, it was to far to go to get to him in time & the local guy did a near freebie for me.....I trust it will equal, or near equal Steves work!
I got 3 years of 2-3 races per week....some times double entered with 2 drivers, and a test & tune day/night at least every month, so Edgar needs to do the math. We started racing it at 20k miles & it just turned 70k. I guess it held up pretty good!! :D
Re: Tranny question for Tranny Tech's.... (TLewis4095)
And I got a chance to take his car for a spin today and I NEVER imagined that a tranny could have that kinda effect on the cars performance :D
