John, too late to change your mind now!

4.10 gears is the best all around gear with a MN6. Like Redgar said, you will actual launch better at the track with the 4.10's despite that you would think it would burn the tires off the car. That is if you are running some stickey tires! I also think the lower gear is better on the clutch as it reduces the intitial load.

I just took my 4.10's out for 3.90's because of my stroker motor. With the 4.10'a I would only be able to hit 128-129 in the quarter. The 3.90's will get me into the 132+ range. I also have so much power down low and only rev it to 6300 that the taller gear will work better.

Go for the 4.10's......you won't be disappointed!

You will definately notice the 4.10. So much low end grunt. I light up tires so easily :D I would highly recomend a shifter cause you'll be doing alot of that

i think its a waste in a c5. the c5 is already light-assed and these will only make things more difficult. And get ready to lose to some f-body LS1s on the highway.... which is pretty sad.

I must disagree.

The 4:10's have servedme well in every situation, from stop light to stoplight and from a roll on the highway.

In the upper digits there may be some disadvantages, but I rarely run above 150.

By the time I hit 130 my point has been made. :lol

i agree totally, i was jus havin sum fun. When i had the 410s i just yearned for that long hard pull in all the gears.. seems with the 410s its all jerky headsnapping motions without using the torque these motors make. I like the feel of a high hp car with a mild gear.... so i dont have to interrupt that terrifying pull in the seat :D get a drive in a viper.. you'll know what i mean.

Dude, with 4.10's and 427rwhp he can most probably hit 190 in 6th..

4.10's don't hurt the top end as much as most people thought originally.. Redline @6500 in 5th is easy with a stock motor...That gives you about 170mph

I've just ordered 4.10s with my Cartek Stage II H/C package. The split in replies here seems pretty mixed but i looked at it this way. Compared to the standard MN6 gear ratio, your going to be running 20% higher RPM for a given speed in a given gear. Therefore, your top speed in each gear will be equivalent to that at 5000rpm with your stock set-up - not including the increased RPM I'll get with the H/C change. Yes youll be changing gears more quickly, but only cause your speeds getting up there a lot quicker.
With an A4, I'm sure it's a completely different story.

Cool.

I've driven several Vipers and a lot of the fun is due to the prodigious torque and the gearing.

I had the 4.10s for quite some time. WHat i really missed was leaving it in 4th on the highway and just feeling the nice long uninterrupted growl of the exhaust and the nice push in the seat that i felt. Thats why i switched back down (to a 3.73 this time). I think 3.73 are the best IMO but thats only because 'I' like longer gears. No doubt however when i first got them i was like "woah!"

The reason i went with 3.73s is because of the raised redline... the top speed is still increased slightly :D

John, I was wondering if you made it home in one piece or if you put the car into the weeds!

Good thing you didn't try to drive home with the old carrier....it would have REALLY slowed you down!

Did you get used to them yet?

Just got back from joy ride, Those gears dont seem to have a negative effect on the highway. They are a very streetable gear. That cars top speed is still faster than i will ever go, my race ends after a 1/4 mile. :lolg: Thanks again, Howard. As soon as I find something else to buy ill send my car your way. I am also Looking forward to getting beat by you at the track, ( the mechanic has to have the faster car.) :lolg: :banghead:

John you kill me! :lolg:

Your car is no slouch! That thing will run mid 11's all day! I guess your car is another example showing that 4.10's is a great gear for the 6sp cars. Especially when using a head/cam setup!

I'm sure we'll find something else to do with your car! :hurray:

As far as getting beat.......yep....your in trouble!
