Decided to bleed the brakes today and used ATE Super Blue racing fluid. After bleeding the brakes (RR then LR then RF and LF) I had only used 1/2 a can.
Is this amount normal? I thought it would at least take 1 liter.
I used a friends Gunson's Eezi-Bleed Bleeder Kit.
Took the car out and the brakes are much firmer and seem to be working well.
Well, it depends. If what you did was just add fluid as you bled the brakes, then that's not out of line. OTOH, when I usually flush a brake system that hasn't seen any new fluid since it left the factory 5 years ago, it takes about a quart. Suck all the old gunk out of the reservoir, fill about halfway and "swish" it around in the tank, suck that out, do it again, then flush the rest of the brake system.
I just did this myself as part of a brake system upgrade.
I already had the SuperBlue in and after bleeding the system added maybe a 1/4 of the liter can to top it off. You don't want to mix fluid types/brands.
After getting everything tested, I had the system flushed (including the ABS/TCS controller) and ended up using 1.5 liters of a new fluid.
