C5 Weight Reduction

To lose weight try these
The glass top is lighter.
The non power sport seats are ligther
Titanium Z06 exhaust is lighter
Get lighter wheels like CCW
Non runflat tires are lighter
Empty all the cds from the car

But then, I can be wrong. There appears to be no dispute over the weight of the run-flats but I would need to see the scale with a 295 tire b4 I will beleive it....and I don't care what post says what. If I am wrong, next round is on me guys....and I will buy the 295's

Any chance your Pole Positions are just heavier than most aftermarket tires? I find it hard to believe that the weight of the car can be supported by a sidewall by adding so little mass (to the runflats).....
absolutely a chance that could be.....I never weighed any others.
I also took out the 110 lb weights out of the back. The car weighs about 3150 lb now with the Roll bar. :D

I'm looking for weight that will not impact looks.
ZO6 windshield is probably quite a bit of money for the claimed "6 pounds"
110lb weights out of the back???

eradispeed rotor set.....16lbs
aluminum flywheel......17lbs
headers for coupe.......17lbs less than manifolds
donut eating driver.....up to 50lbs in some cases
don't fill the gas tank.....1/2 take is 60lbs less
carbon fiber driveshaft....7lbs
TI corsa exhaust .....15lbs
I saw the new 350Z uses a carbon-fiber driveshaft- who makes one for the Corvette? When I need a new clutch, I was thinking about doing the flywheel and driveshaft too....

Btw, you can also remove the cats, air pump, and front sway bar.
Anyone know how large the front bumper support(foam piece) is for these cars? Does it look like it weighs much.
Btw, IIRC my C5 weighed in at 3340 with me in it. So minus me it should be around 3180.
I just installed a Kirky SCCA cage. It weighed 134#, so I'm already 16 hp behind all you guys.
It's a good idea to consider reductions in rotating weight. Some ideas are: lightweight flywheel, rotors with aluminum hats, I recently checked out a set of 17x11" 3 pc rims that weighed in at 17# (for info contact roadracer Cindi Lux @ naykidracing.com). Also consider lightweight performance mods that will give you more bang for your buck like tubular headers or a lightweight racing seat. A lexan rear glass for the coupe will shed some pounds, although it will be shortlived due to scratching. The ZO6 windshield can be put in when your old windshield gets a crack. If the car is for racing then buy a set of wrecking yard doorskins and gut them for use at track days. You would be amazed at how much the door glass, regulators and the rest of the guts weigh. I would be cautious at considering a tire on weight alone as it's handling has suck a profound effect on braking and cornering traction (unless they're bias ply racing slicks). sj

Got my scale and took an empty bucket weighing about 2 lbs.
Emptied all three compartments and their covers
Empited the stuff from the cargo net
Removed cargo net and shade
Removed rear light cover panels (on hand bolt each that holds the cargo net)
Remvoed center rear carpet backing
Removed the two ***** that hold the top
Removed 12 Disc CD changer (6 7 mm bolts)
Removed everything from the center console
Removed every thing from the floor (even loose change)
Removed floor mats
Removed glove compartment contents
I have this all sitting on a scale and could not beleive my eyes.
The scale with the bucket is at 46 lbs.
That means I have removed 44 lbs from the car. I know I carry a lot of stuff but I did not think it added up to that. When I take off the mud flaps that should get me to 45 lbs
Heaviest thing is that CD changer which is about 15 lbs with the 12 CD's in it.
Now it may not seem like a lot but we spend thousands to accelerate tenths of a second.
I have tested by adding ballast to my car when I did not have a rollbar and 100 lbs netted me .11 in the quarter.
Now it ain't much but you all know the frustration of taking off .0495 to get you to that next personal best and here it is all along with only about 5 mintues worth of work.....for FREE
Also swapped exhaust from Corsa Inday Pace to Z06 Ti and each muffler is 11 lbs vs. 24 lbs to drop another 26 lbs.
