Default Frame Savers

I would like to make some frame savers. Since I live up in Canada it's hard to get parts up here without paying way to much for getting it through the boarder and paying duty and all that. I was wondering if one of the guys on the forum that has them might measure the diameter and width of the wheels and the measurement from the centre of the bolt to the top of the bracket. Thanks in advance for your input.

I don't know the exact diameter of the wheels I used to make them for my '01 Coupe BUT, here's what I used/did:

I purchased a set of ***4*** SKATEBOARD WHEELS (AND BEARINGS) of the SMALLEST DIAMETER I COULD GET (about 2.5", I THINK they were - they gotta be SMALL or they will rub UP on the underside of the front bumper cover when mounted as I did; see next).

I mounted then by simply drilling 1/4" HOLES of the appropriate diameter THROUGH the nerf bars and mounting one SB wheel ON EACH SIDE of EACH BAR.

NOTE that I also decided to reinforce the nerf bars BEFORE mounting the rollers by cutting and grinding to the proper shape and contour some 3/16" x 1.5" steel bar stock and BOLTING IT to the nerf bars on each side (allowing sufficient clearance fore and aft so that the BOLTS I used to fasten these reinforcements would not interfear with the rollers (I used BOLTS as I didn't want to weld here). I decided to do this as the nerf bar material is pretty light gauge and drilling through it would weaken it further...).

All in all, pretty straightforward. I used Stainless Steel hardware wherever possible. I think the bolts for the roller themselves were in the range 0f 1/4" x 4.5" x 20, and the reinforcements bolts where 1/4" x 1.5" x 20...

Anyway, it isn't/wasn't difficult to do/make then as I did (no welding). Just make sure that you pick up 12 or so SS washers to allow the wheels to be spaced out from the nerf bar, and AGAIN make sure that the rollers are AS SMALL AS POSSIBLE (say about 2.5" I think; you can confirm with a tape by figureing out here the center of the berf bar hole goes and then mesuring the distance up to the underside of the fascia = radius x 2 = diameter.

Good Luck.

Be careful when deciding which wheels to install. Andy @ A&A buys special wheels to withstand the weight of the car. Just any wheel may not function properly.
