Ok guys whats it for? I just switched back to stock from hurst since i dropped an alignment screw down trans tunnel...and I didnt put the pin in since when I tried...the shifter would get locked....whats the deal with it???

Is it necessary? Is there a trick to it?

I'm running my stock shifter without the alignment pin...no problems here.

I think I may have one in my garage if you feel you really need it. You can have it for $100. :p: Just kidding. Email me if you want it.

You need to loosen the collar on the shift rod that goes aft and insert the pin in neutal gear then insert pin, tighten collar and REMOVE pin and you should be back to normal.

Yup, thats the only time you need it.. if you have loosened or removed the rod that goes from the shifter base to the trans.. you need the pin to align the shifter neutral position with the trans nuetral position..

thanks guys....I am surprised they leave the pin in there but not inserted all the way...if it wiggled its way down into the hole you would be screwed or rather "pinned" right? Or am I missing something here.......you align shifter base with pin inserted which prevents the shifter from moving thru the gears....tighten base and then back out pin right?

Actually, you remove the pin completely, and put it in the clip at the front of the stock shifter base. The pin is only a "gauge tool", and doesn't remain in the control rod.

Ah....the cloud has cleared......thanx for the info bud!

I didnt use it when I put the hurst in......now that I have the stock back in till I get new adj screw for Hurst....either the hurst broke the tranny in....or I was just amazingly used to Hurst cause now the stock shifts with the upmost ease...not notchy as it was before...and seems even kinda so soft its flimsy......any answers? I think its more than just used to the hurst!

I still prefer the Hurst, as I was never confident of getting 3rd gear(on an upshift) with the stock shifter.

Prior to installing the Hurst, however, I did reset the neutral gate of the stocker using the pin, as mine was ever so slightly off. It did help the shifting, but still wasn't as accurate as the Hurst.

Do you mean the little black hex screws that hold in the springs? I lost one too while 'playing' with the hurst. That transmission tunnel is like a black hole! I've started covering the hole up with a rag whenever I open it.

I found an exact replacement at the local Home Depot. A hardware store with a good fastener section should have them. And your shifter should have come with a softer set of springs.
