My Baby (99 torch red convert) display is saying "service control lock", do I really need to take it to the dealer to have it cleared, anybody have experience with this? The car drives fine. I am not sure if it has anything to do with it or not, but after about a month of not driving it, due to being out of town, I got my 99 convert out to drive today. The battery was too low to start it, but it was not totally dead. I charged the battery, and went for a drive. The message has been displayed since I started the car.
Anyone have any wisdom, I would appreciate it
Is that "Service Control Lock" or "Service Column Lock"? Usually the infamous Service Column Lock is accompanied with a note to Remove Key, Wait 10 Seconds. If that doesn't clear it, then normally the car will only move a few feet before dying. Since this doesn't seem to be occuring, hopefully that's not the problem. I had the dealer change my column lock under warranty and it's worked fine since. I think that you can delete the DIC notice but am not sure how to do so...maybe by the reset button. It might be better to check your owners manual first.
It is the "service column lock". I did try to reset it and it came right back. I guess I am going to have to take it to the dealer. I am going to pull down the codes with a buddies computer, but I don't hold out high hopes. I really think it is a bad input as the car runs fine, but I would hate to find out the hard way that it is not. Thanks for the input
Well, it is done. It was the body control module. $500 later she is back in top shape. Worst part about it was that Ihad to drive it to the dealer in the rain. Thanks for the input
