The power antenna on my 98 has stopped retracting all the way. I've tried cleaning and lightly lubricating it, but still no good. It will go about 3/4 of the way down. The electric motor sounds normal just doesn't retract all the way. Any ideas or do I need to replace the whole thing?
Re: Power antenna doesn't fully retract? (xelor98)
That happened to the antenna on my C4 and I forced it to retract by pushing down on the mast. That seemed to work.
The C5 may have a different system, but before I brought it in for replacement, I'd give that a shot.
Re: Power antenna doesn't fully retract? (xelor98)
Here is what I did on my 1990 when that happened...
1. Turn on the radio and let the mast fully extend..
2. Unplug the Power to the Power Antenna
3. Turn the radio off
4. Plug the power into the antenna.

I wound up :jester replacing mine. not a big deal, just take out the tail lights and there it is! I was pleasantly suprised how easy it went.

Re: Power antenna doesn't fully retract? (xelor98)
This was a very common problem back in 99-01. Do use any lubricants on the antenna, this will cause it to gum up. Clean antenna with mineral spirts about once a month, removing the black residue and you will be good to go.
Re: Power antenna doesn't fully retract? (xelor98)
Mine did this recently also. Evidently there is a technical servive bulliten to add some clip to the antenna. When the dealer tech worked on mine, he Totally crewed it up. This a VERY long story. Anyway, they ended up replacing the antenna.
