I own a 2002 Vert 6-speed. If I try to downshift from 6th to 5th above 70mph, my car will not let me do so until I reduce speed to around 60 or 55. I do have a CAGS skip eliminator. Could that be the problem or do I have some kind of syncro issue? Thanks in advance for your replies.
CAGS only affects shifts into second and third and eliminates them under the right RPM scenarios thus forcing one on occasion to shift from 1st to 4th.
You issue does not appeaar to be CAGS related.
Sounds like maybe you are trying to shift into reverse and the stop is thankfully preventing that from happening.
Why you are successful at your shift at lower speeds is interesting. It could be you are being more careful about your shifting at that point especially being cognizent of the problem you might have just had with your previous attempt.
Hopefully someone else can add something from actual experience here.

The reverse lockout prevents you from going into reverse it does not keep you from going into 5th even if you are jamming the shifter to the far right while moving it forward.
