Default 160-degree thermostat question

At freeway speeds, my temperatures hover around 172 to 178 depending on load. Around town, I see 178 to 186 on the DIC. In stop and go slow traffic, I turn the air conditioner on starting a fan that cools the engine to 192 to 198. Am I running to cool? A 170-degree thermostat would likely raise my temperatures 6 degrees or so.

Thanks for the help.

Depends on what you are looking for. You're right on the money for HP, cooler or warmer will be worse. You will see a decrease in oil life recommendation from the DIC because you are running cooler than stock. So what? With the same combo, mine goes 5,000 before the DIC says change it. Most people change sooner than that anyway.

I switched to a 160 degree thermostat last year and have had no problems.
