Default Codes after headers installed

O2 sims in the rear
Switched to the ORPs and I'm now throwing 2 codes. P1133 and P1153
I had no codes with the cats on.
Car is running very rich. burns my eyes and has black smoke coming out the pipes.
Anyone have any ideas ?

The O2 sims were installed, with and without the cats.
Somewhat surprised to see the codes after only removing the cats.
Also, suprised that headers alone could cause the rich condition, or do you think it's the O2s causing her to be rich.

Hey Buckmaster,
Did your car seem rich after your headers were installed.
I tried to do an idle relearn, no help.
She won't idle any more and tries to stall.

Wow, guess going from stock exhaust to a good set of headers makes a much bigger difference than I expected. I really need to tap it and see what's going on.

That's odd, I wouldn't think you would throw codes on the B sensors with simms in.....I have the OEM sensors in and FLP cats and no codes....maybe your simms are bad....

What do your O2 (sim) signals look like? My bet (risky since both threw) would be they are stuck low. Was it immediately rich like this or did it get worse?

:cry is not unusual with no cats.

Buckmaster, are you running sims or real O2s?

Have not had a chance to hook up EFILive yet. I'll check O2s reading today.
Yup, I think it was rich from the start.
The only other thing I can think of is I had the intake manifold off during the header install. Re-checked everything again and all looks good.
I pulled the plugs last night and they are totally covered with soot.
Idle seems very low and choppy for my small cam.

But you weren't seeing codes after this swap but before the ORP+sims, started right after the ORP+sims. Correct? Maybe you could post a plot of the O2 data. :) I'd be interested in seeing all four signals.

Correct, with the cats and rear sims installed no codes
After installing the ORPs, sims still installed, I picked up these 2 codes.
Only change was I pulled the cats.
I'll collect the data shortly.

I have the same codes with my FLP system w/o cats. But sometimes they have an "H", then a "C" after the code. From the manual these are the
sensors on the driver side headers. Have a 1999 A4 Coupe with 34000 miles, Blackwing intake and Corsa exhaust. Have 02 Sims on rear section of exhaust system.
Had FLP installed on 7/2. Started getting these codes after switching to no cats on 9/2. I just reset the codes. May look at replacing the sensors later.

ToplessTexan, just sent you an e-mail.
Does not look good.
AFR starts out at 10.6
O211 looks fine then drops to 99 mv.
LTFT1 stuck at 25
What the heck did I do

Your LTFT1 is at 25? What is your LFTF2? If it is way different then LTFT1, then check for intake manifold leak. Did you autotap for misfire? Check cylinder #7.

Your are getting
P1133 Heated Oxygen Sensor (HO2S) Insufficient Switching Bank 1 Sensor 1-8
P1153 Heated Oxygen Sensor (HO2S) Insufficient Switching Bank2 Sensor 1-B

Which tells me that the O2 sims have nothing to do with it, they are Senor 2's.

LTFT2s start at -1.56 then eventually drops to -18
LTFT1 starts at +25, drops to 14.1 for a very short time then goes back to 25.
I will check for intake leaks again, it's almost impossible to get a torque wrench on the back 2 bolts
Have not checked for misfires.

First of all, which fuel trim cells are you talking about here? Is this an average?

Second, 25 LTFT1 vs -18 LTFT2 is not good. That sounds bad, really bad. Bank 1 is way too lean and bank 2 rich. Something not right. I would check for intake leaks, exhaust leaks, O2 sensor problems, injectors, missfire, and pull the plugs.

I'm betting issues with this stuff would have manifested before swapping to the ORP. ;)

ToplessTexan,
I just read your e-mail ……You’re one sharp butt dude !! :yesnod:

Sorry for the delay, got one of them 7X24 hour a day jobs and it cuts into my play time.
From yesterday………
Decided to start over again and figure out what the heck I screwed up.
While under the car I noticed that the rear O2 harnesses cross. Got to thinking about this and realized that this is wrong for my configuration. I swapped the O2’s, right side harness connects to right side header, left to left and both codes are now gone. I have picked up a new code P0135, no big deal, I’ll handle it later.

benelliwang, thanks for telling me to check the intake again.
Next I rechecked the intake manifold, guess what, when I re-torqued the bolts they were all loose. It seems after a heat cycle they needed to be torqued a second time. Another note, when I turned the torque wrench slow, it seems to pass a resistance point and gets loose again, been here before, I should know better. Now that I’ve managed to squeeze my head out of my a…….
Back to the original problem, she is still “burn your eyes” rich and running rough, but nothing like before, also no black smoke. After going through the above mess, my guess is the plugs are trash, any thoughts on this? Should I make any changes with LS1Edit, if so should I change the MAF table or the Injector Flow Rate table ?
