I just bought new Z06 wheels and am looking for tires to fit. I like the GY gs-d3's or the Michelin Pilot sport AS. The new wheels are the 10 1/2 inch. Will the original size tires from the 9 1/2 inch tires fit these wheels and still look good, i.e. not to narrow or bulged out? Neither one makes a tire in the Z06 size range.
OEM Goodyear Supercars, Kumho MX, Toyo Proxes all make tires that work well on the Z06 rim and not cost $$$$$. Also Michelin, Yokohama, Bridgestone, but the first three probably cost a bit less. People have cautioned that the Supercars are a poor choice if you drive much in the rain; the Toyos have a good reputation for rain use, and I think the Kumhos are good also.
I am in northern Cal. and I need tires for the rain. I had heard about the supercars not doing that well. I was looking at tirerack and the top two all seasons were the michelin pilot AS and the Continental which was over $500 less than the Michelins, but only in stock vette sizes for the rear. The sizes are less than an inch off compared to stock Z06 tire sizes, but slightly bigger than the runflats. Hey Chuck, were the smaller tires really noticable as in "oh my gosh that looks terrible"? Or did you have to actually be looking for it to see it?
I had the GY runcraps on my ZO6 size rims when I first got the car. Those tires seemed noticeably too small for the rims. I had to replace the tires anyway so I ditched the GY's for Michelin Pilot Sports (not the A/S, those have M&S ratings and are not quite the high performance tire) in 295/35 rear and 275/40 front. They look just right, drive soooo much better and are quiter. Haven't driven too much in the rain but everything I've read and heard says they are just fine in that regard. Besides, the rainy season is almost over for six months! Also, I have put many laps on road courses with the Pilots and they perform exceptionally.
If $ is the limiting factor go with the Kumho Ecsta MX, an excellent performer both wet and dry. I feel the Michelin's are the better tire though. You can also buy the Pilots through Costco. They will order them for you at the same price as TireRack but will also mount and balance them for free and will include a road hazard warranty (saving about $100 in the process).
