Lost idle, cam/header car, codes?
After coming off the highway, sitting at the light the car starts to search for idle and then drops to where I give her gas to keep it running. Now I'm only 2 miles from home so I baby her back through the residential section. Any stops and idle drops right off but I am now noticing a little stumbling, running without the full "8cyl feel". Now I get home and shut it down, pop hood, smelling something cooking but can't pinpoint. I checked the plug wires thinking maybe I fried a wire on the headers but it looks fine. THere is a little smoke coming from the nose of the car, kind of drifting over the Blackwing. No smoke from the exhaust.
ANy suggestions? how do you get these codes that people mention? Should I fire it up or not?
Mods are below, car has 23000 miles on it. I changed the oil when I put it on the road last week. All fluids looked good on the gauges. Oil pressure was dipping a bit to 35psi but I associated that with the idle drifting down to the 400RPM range. Coolant was 200'ish with outside temps about 55 degrees. No warnings on my DIC.
The plugs are original. I'm not the best of mechanic or diagnoser but thinking to my snowmobiling or motorcycle days I would first assume a plug fouled out with the action of the car. I don't know though.
I know it is a Sunday but I hope there are some gearheads around to give me some feedback.
THanks, Lance
Service Manuals are supposed to be here today, maybe they will provide some assistance for trouble shooting.

Could be the plugs as you mentioned. The factory plugs come equiped with a platinum puck on the tip. These have a tendency to come off with a little spirited driving. Great plugs for fuel economy and longevity, but bad plug for performance... :(
You can check your codes by:
1. clearing all messages off your DIC by pressing reset.
2. Press and hold "4" down and then press "1" four times without letting go of the #4 button.
This will put you in diagnostic mode. You may use the 3 and 4 key to toggle through your code categories and 2 to enter and view the codes in said category.
You can translate the codes by going to http://www.obdii.com . There is a link to a searchable database of codes.
Let us know what codes you have and we can surely help more.
Good Luck, and call me if you cannot get the car in diagnostic mode. I will try and walk you through it.
"Below is my previous post. This is a MAF system code, any suggestions to look for? Might be key that there was little smoke/burnt smell drifitng up over my Blackwing. I haven't cleaned the Blackwing, maybe has 12-15000 miles on it. Is that possible cause of sudden problems."

I still believe it is awfully coincidental that I had the slight smoke and burnt smell coming from the front of Blackwing with hood up. Never happened before and don't believe the Blackwing is the culprit, only using it as a visual area of the smoke. Is there something that could have been fried under there, some type of sensor that the MAF needs to operate properly?
Not only was the idle off but the car felt like it was on 7 cylinders or ?, whatever the feeling it was like reduced power. No warning lights came on either.
I am fishing around for ideas and appreciate any input. I don't feel like taking it to the dealer with my mods even though I am still under GMPP and dropping it off at the Vette Doctors is not feasible at this stage b/c they are 350 miles aways. Guarantee if I was on Long Island the car would be there today and let the pro's take care of what I believe to be minor issue(hope).
Damn, wished I was technical enough to figure this one out on my own :nonod: .
Thanks,
Lance
I sent him the info and will call them tomorrow afternoon. Still feeling it is something simple.
