I am building a separate garage/shop next to my home for non-business use and, like any dedicated enthusiast, am going to put in a 2 post lift. I have looked at the Eagle 2 post asymmetrical lift. Has anyone had good/bad experiences with 2 post lifts and can make a recommendation as to manufacturer?
Do a search in the c5 general section and you'll find some old posts about lifts. I just bought a 4 post Autolifter lift and am VERY happy with it. M6 plus delivered to my door for $2900ish.
I have a Bendpak Model MX-10ACX Asymmetric
Just did a engine swap on my C5 with it. Sure made it easy.
2 post is the only way to go if you work on cars

I have an Eagle 10,000 lbs symetrical lift for my business that I bought in December of 2002. I'm not a garage but I have a lot of equipment where a lift comes in handy. The Eagle is good quality though the arms are a bit too big for easy use with my Corvette. I have to drive up on two by twelves to get them to swing under. I've talked with the company and they do make lower arms for the Vette but it wasn't worth the money for me. The two by twelves are cheaper! I went with the TPO version so I would have a clear floor. It went up fairly easy. I also used concrete epoxy to make sure the hold down bolts did! Good luck. I'm happy.
If you are into auctions like myself.............
Got this 2 post 9,000# rating for $1,000 less than the going rate today and I like the stability & build of the older ones better.
I disassembled this one, looked over the welds/parts real good, lubed it & put it up. Load tested to 5,500 #s so far........  :yesnod:
I have the Gemini 9000 lb. 2 post. They are in Ft. Worth and build lifts for many other manufacturers to sell with their own name. It is great quality and is an easy 2 man install. Less than $2500 shipped to my garage and they do GP's for groups. I missed one or could have had it for less than $2000 total.
Once you get to be an Old Fa*t like me, a lift is mandatory if you do any great amount of work on a car. It is a good investment, as its value will not go down much as little as an individual will use it.
I should add one of the big things that impressed me about the Eagle lift vs. the others I looked at is the base plate. It measures about 16" by 24" by about 5/8" thick. I feel a lot more comfortable about lessening the chance of tip over and spreading the weight over a larger foot print bolted to the concrete. One of the ones I looked at, the base was an angle iron 4" wide by 18" long. The following is an address to look at the base plate plus all the other lifts they have. The price for mine was about $3,000 delivered. http://www.eagleequip.com/products/l...post/index.htm
Good luck. I really enjoy having mine. It made changing the oil in the MN6 and rear end a snap last night.
I made my ceiling a minimum of 10 ft. high. knowing that a lift would be added later. My lift is the type that has the cable going from post to post on the ground instead of up in the air. This type is a lot lower in altitude than the one that has the cable strung overhead. It does however have a plate on the ground that covers the cable, a disadvantage to some if they want a clean flat area. It does not pose any problems for me.
I am building a separate shop too..I could put a lift in my garage..but am going to build a shop...let me know how it goes...two post is the only way to work on these cars..it is what all the shops use and the dealerships....I am getting one with a 9000lb capacity so I can work on my 3/4 ton truck with confidence.
I really appreciate the input from everyone. In answer to the question about ceiling height, for the eagle 2 post 10,000 lb lift they recommend a 12 foot ceiling. It really depends upon what you are picking up, but it varies between 10 feet and 13 feet. When I get my garage done I'll send photos. Thanks again for the input.
I put in a 2 post lift made by Auto Lifters in Kansas, $2195 delivered to me in Wisconsin. It really works great. Free delivery and also a set of lift extensions for lifting 4X4s with running boards. And it goes low enough to get under my C5. Wish I had it 20 years ago.lol.mine is 8ft wide. wish I would have gotten the 9ft wide for $200 more. Remember also , if you are 6ft tall , you only have to lift the vehicle 5ft 6in. and never bump your head. so measure in your garage if you can raise it from the top of the vehicle to the sealing. you should also have a mimuim of 4in. of 5 bag mix Concrete floor. preferably with wire mesh in it also. Good luck.
