Pull the code off of the DIC and post the code number as somebody will know what it means. To get the code, hold down the options button and hit the fuel button four times. The display will run through and display all codes that have been stored. Write them down. To get out of diagnostics mode, hit the E/M button.
The same light came on in my Avalanche yesterday, at 44K. After some reading online and the owners manual, I retightened the gas cap. After five trips, the light turned off. Sometimes, it's just that simple.
I called the dealer to make an appointment, and they told me to check the gas cap and call them back in a couple days if the light doesn't go off.
I will run through the codes stored in the DIC and see what is in there. I never knew it was that easy.
