My car is in the dealer, I hate it. I found about 15 drops of fluid on the floor under my car which was over a period of 10 days. Yesterday I jacked her up, put jackstands under her and I went under. I found trans fluid accummulating near the TQ convertor where it goes into the trans and of course there was a film of fluid over the trans pan, not really a great amount.
To the dealer today, this car has 11K on it and is 18 months old. Dealer called me about 30 minutes ago and said one leak was on speedo cable seal and also said they found the differiential seal leaking which they are working on now. I know this is under warrantee but I'm paranoid of dealers. Does this sound realistic for leaks? Is A4 Trans fluid the same color as diff fluid? Any one experience this type of leak?
Re: LEAKS! Diff and trans fluid the same? (mozart)
I have a leak in my differential as well. I'm taking it in May 9th to have it looked at so they can order the right parts. My Z06 friend had the same problem and his dealer told him that are seeing this differential leak from time-to-time. They installed a new gasket to fix his. The next time you have your car up on the rack, I would take a good look at your differential. If they tighten the washer down to tight on the plug it can leak there. Mine is leaking there too. I have never owned a GM car that did not leak oil and I have owned a lot of them. In fact, I stopped buying GM cars back in 1985 because of oil leaks. I was kind of hoping that GM would have solved the leaking problem on all their cars by now. My Japanese and German cars have never leaked oil, knock on wood, so why should a good company like GM build cars that leak oil?

20000 and my diff output is leaking.......hmm.........My C4 had that because before I got it it was never driven. It went away. Now with the C5 its driven almost daily.
Maybe somebody knows something :grouphug:
Re: LEAKS! Diff and trans fluid the same? (VETFVER)
The rear end on the C-5 is made in Germany. Same company makes them for Porsche and others. Car building is an international game these days. They are only assembled here..parts are from everywhere and in many cases the same ones are in Japanese and German cars.

My car is in the dealer, I hate it.
Is it the car or the dealer that you hate?
Your transmission uses Dexron III Automatic Transmission Fluid (ATF)
and your limited slip differential uses SAE 75W-90 Synthetic Axle Lubricant with 4 oz of a limited slip additive.
Your Owner's Manual has a wealth of basic information in it, and is intended as a basic guide to Corvette Owners.
ATF is red. This is done to differentiate it from other lubricants that could be leaking from your car. If you have ever changed your engine oil then you know that most engine oils are honey colored, as is the limited slip differential lubricant and additive.
It sounds like the leaks you have experienced are not unusual and are easily fixed by Mr. Goodwrench. Why don't you cool you paranoia and let these highly trained mechanics make your baby well again? :D

I love the vette, its those highly trained Mr. Goodwrench experts who give use such excellent customer service and satisfaction and who have the unique ability to totally ignore the customers needs that I hate. Maybe I shouldn't hate em, at least if they don't have an answer they always have some kind of an excuse.
Re: LEAKS! Diff and trans fluid the same? (mozart)
You should certainly be worried about taking your car to the dealer! I have had problems each time I have taken mine in for a warrantee repair. Everything from oily smudges on my interior, to rags left in the engine compartment, paint scratches, and careless work like forgetting the limited slip additive! For the most part these guys don't care about your car -- they are thinking about what they are planning to do after work. And I have tried three different dealerships.
Mine has had the differential leak repaired twice! It is a '99 with 20K miles. Good luck.
