Just curious!!!
The deck lid on my 2000 Vert is stubborn. I can push the deck lid release button and the lid will pop up but only enough that I have to pry it up with my fingers. Is this how the deck is supposed to open, a common problem, or is my vette an odd ball on this one????
Any input on this one would be greatly appreciated!!!
This is a pretty common problem and I had it. It came down to lubrication on all hinge points and then the latch itself. What was happening was that the selonoid would do it's thing but the latch itself was not completely releasing so that when then selonoid released the lid would try to go up but would contact the latch on the way up. WD-40 on both sides of the latch should fix it up. Good Luck.
I have a spoiler mounted on the hatch lid on my coupe and the extra weight keeps it from poping up when I hit the release. I stuffed a raquet ball in the back corner, and it has just enough extra push to allow the hatch to clear the latches.
I had the same problem with my 01 vert, I used LPS-1 which is a dry lube on all the hinge points and the latch mechanism (lifter spring) and it works perfectly, just don't over do it.
Thanks to everyone that responded. I will try and work on it next weekend. This weekend I am going to FL on vacation and the Stinger Exhaust goes on next week. First things first, right?? :yesnod:
I have the same problem, I have found a easy way to open the lid. With all windows closed just pop the latch and then close your door when you get out the increased air pressure pops the deck right up. :seeya
Here's a solution that worked for me.

1) Remove the carpet trim pieces in the trunk to expose the latch assembly. You will see the black spring that is supposed to push the trunk lid up by pushing up the U shaped hook on the trunk lid. . Notice that it is curled down at the end.
2) I was able to straighten out the curl with a pair of vice-grips. It is not totally straight, but just enough to push up the trunk lid about one inch every time.
I was at the C5 Birthday Bash, and Dave Hill mentioned this. Apparently, it has been a problem reported by multiple C5 Vert owners. They discovered that in most cases, the issue is that the latch mechanism is not centered.
Did you post this info once before? I did this and it worked great.

According to the knowledgebase on the Corvette Action Center, there is a TSB for this. Look for "1998-2003 Convertible: Trunk Door on Convertible Won't Open All The Way". Hope that helps!
There are several things to do to fix this.
The one I find most effective is to properly adjust the latch assembly.
It's under the rear wall trim carpet piece.
Make sure it lines up well with the striker on the lid.
next as mentioned, lube the hinges and make sure the "struts" are in good condition.
If all else fails I have heard reports that it works to back the snubbers up a little bit (either corner on the back) to put a little more upward pressure on the deck lid.
The latches are usually okay, just adjusted wrong.
