Alright. This isn't about my dad's Vette (although it could be). I have '01 Dodge Ram Cummins Diesel. I currently have a 190* T-stat in it. Well lately, it has been going over 190* and the fan has been staying on constantly and it's getting really annoying. It's robbing my power and some MPG. I wanted to swap to a 180* but no one makes them (not even Dodge). I remember reading on here about placing shims underneath it. Or cutting the springs on it. I was wanting to get a little more detail on those two mods. I'm not going to rip my T-stat out cause it will run to cold. Any help yall can give me would be nice. I may be doing this to my dad's car cause he doesn't like it running at 200+ either. Thanks yall.
You dad can take his vette to a local tuner (not a dealership) and for $40 to $60 get his fan speeds reset to come on at a lower temperature. That's what I did and my car never heats up over 187 deg F.
As for your Dodge pickup......kill it and get rid of the krautmobile. Dodge/Chrysler never has made a decent engine and they still don't. Go buy a Chevy, it'll last longer, ride better, look better and you can take some pride in not driving a german product.
I'll disregard that statement about the Dodge. Considering I know a bunch of people with well over 300K miles on there 01 trucks with no problems. And those guys are spitting out well over 500hp and 1400lb.ft. torque and are daily drivers that run in the 13's with 7000lb trucks and pull 20 to the gallon on the freeway. To bad the D-max can't do that. Let's also not forget about the engines of the 60's and 70's that Chrysler produced. The 426 Hemi comes to mind. As for where they are produced. Cummins farms out to Mexico, Brazil, and China. Dodge farms out to Japan and a host of other countries. Chevy powerplants have more Japanese components in them than North American. Ford's got manfacturing plants all over the place. 'American built' is no longer a term that holds any water.
As for the tuner, I've got some info on a free mod that will turn the fans on at a lower speed. I just wanted to know of anything else I could do to keep it running cooler.
