When I put my ST3500 in, I had the dealer do it because I was also having a set of 3.42's installed and didn't really have a lot of time to do the swap. Now, after all of my problems with my stall, I am planning on putting the factory converter back in. I don't plan, however, on having the shop do it this time ($800). Does anyone have any advice on how to do the swap? Is there a posted set of instructions on how to do it, or am I just on my own? If so, do y'all have any tips for me?
I do not have any instructions, but the ST-3500 is a real kick butt! converter . I never had a problem with it, did you get custom tuning? Maybe that will change your mind.

:iagree:
I have not had a problem with my ST3500 either. What kind of problems did you have with yours?
It won't stay locked up. I removed the lock-up solenoid wire from the PCM, and put a constant ground on it (basically a manual lock-up switch). This should have eliminated the problem if it were a PCM problem. The problem was still present with the wire grounded, so I had to remove the connection to the lock-up solenoid from the PCM (this was the only way to prevent the fluctuations of the lock-up clutch). This has given me the performance of the high stall converter, but I have dropped about 6 mpg (average 25, down to 19 mpg). I also had a problem with heat obviously, until I put in a cooler. Even with the biggest cooler I could find, I am still running 190F. This is due to the excess slip. I think I got bagged with a bad converter. My plans are to send it back to Yank, get a new one and sell it, or just get my money back from them.
The problem is that you need to adjust the shift points for the new converter. The converter is working fine. Because of the high stall, the transmission will be hotter. Get the PCM reprogrammed, I know the dealer did not do this.
