Absorbent Glass Matt battery. How can you tell if
you have one ?
I just had the battery replaced on my '01, Bad Cell.
It had caused a lot of problems and 3 visits to the
dealer before fix. I don't know what was replaced,
the new one is a Delco, Model 75P-7YR Platnium Pro.
Scary article in the new (Jul) CF Mag. (corrosive correction)
My HVAC switch and line also had to be replaced,
Air direction would not control. I had no corrosion issues though.
According to CF the AGM Battery went in '01. Can't tell ?

Please help me to understand... I have a 1998 C5 and the original battery that came with the car (which I understand was subject to leakage at the battery posts) was replaced right before I bought the car with a new, el-cheapo, non-AGM aftermarket battery.
Do I have a ticking time bomb here? Do I need to switch to an AGM battery right away? In other words... was the problem just with the defective Delco battery leaking... or is it a problem generic to all conventional batteries installed within a C5 such that I really need to switch to an AGM right away to protect the electronics??? Thanks!
No..this problem was not a C5 issue only, it crosses all makes and models with GM. Last I heard from engineering was that 2 things had caused it, 1..battery cable bolts where crossthreaded from the factory and 2..bolts where not torqued enough, not overtorqued. Seems that when either happens over the life of the car to much resistance is built up at the connection, thusly overheating said connection and causing the case to warp ever so slightly around the terminal and causing the leak. There is alot of conjecture about the root cause but either way asl ong as the cables are tight and do not allready have acid contamination you should be fine.
I'd hate to throw away a perfectly good 15 month old battery just for the sake of going AGM. It is not a Delco battery. I believe the seller said he bought it at Sam's club. Hope it wasn't made by Delco and marketed by others!!! No leakage so far and no issues with cable tightness.

If it is Sam's it is Champion. It's the same one I bought. It has much more structure around the terminals.
Thanx for the Resp
End. . . which end ?
2 rounded parts where ?
Top of case looking down :
Front , back, or side edges ?
Or do you mean the vertical side corners are rounded ?
I checked the Delco Site (www.acdelco.com)
under Parts info. The only model number that
matches AGM is .... 75P. My battery Has 75P- 7Yr.
typed under the AC Delco Professional Platinum label.
Seems odd they would't say AGM on the repacement.
like theOEM photo from Dave 68 ?
PS,
I found a lot of good info in the archives
Thanx again

and enter the requested info for a 2001 or newer Corvette. When the list of available batteries appears, you will notice that the "P" does indicate that the battery is an AGM.
