For two years I have used Chevron or Sinclair premium and the fuel guage has been perfect. The last fill up was almost to $20 so I topped it off to an even $20. Never have I topped off before and have quit pumping when the pressure kicked off the filler valve the first time. Now my fuel guage does'nt seem to know where to go and reads all over the top half of the scale. will this go away when the tank level drops down? Or, is it pemanently broken?
I have an '02 with about 20,000 miles. My gauge went on the fritz for about three weeks about 2 months ago; pinned on full, pinned on empty, reading too high, and lazy to respond. It cured itself gradually and is back to its same old used to be. Maybe you'll get lucky.
I use Chevron too and regularly give it an extra squirt after the pump shuts off.
1) NEVER, NERVER, NEVER top off your tank. 2) ALWAYS, ALWAYs, ALWAYS make sure your gas cap is tightened properly (several click)
--- Failure to adher to the above, CAN AND WILL impact your fuel system readings, as variations in air (or air pressure) in the system will send your DIC system askew.
In addition, some C5 models have encountered problems with fuel sending units ... but apparently, that problem was supposed to have been taken care of for the 01 model year. This information has been compiled from threads at http://www.ccdv.com
