I've got a new 03 vert with A4 and 2:73. It still has under 2000 miles. A couple of times when I've tried to accelerate at a moderate level, it seems that the nothing is happening, almost like a gear is slipping. The engine seems to rev, but my speed remains constant. If I back off on the accelerator, then try again, it's back to normal. I usually drive in 3rd. I don't drive with a very heavy foot, so is it possible that I'm just hitting some spot where I'm not pushing it hard enough to downshift? Or, is this something I need to get checked out? Thanks.
NoleC5, maybe it's the Spiral Grey color we chose! Did you have any previous C5's? My 98 was an auto, but I don't remember having this problem. Hopefully some more people will respond to this post and tell us if this is something unique to 03's.
This happened to my car at 35K miles which was only a couple months aga. It revved, but i got no accell. I let off and tried to move out again, and things seemed fine. I took her to the dealer where she's still under warranty  and they found that I had a sticking valve body which burnt the 3rd and 4th gear clutches. The rememdy was to completely rebuild the tranny and replace (not repair) the valve body... Boy was I happy I purchased the extended warranty!
'03 A4 w/2.73 here too, but other than its reluctance to downshift with the TC locked, which requires almost flooring the throttle (lugging the engine at very low rpms ), no other problems. Only 1,200 miles though.
I had the feeling nothing was happening when car had 500 miles and floored it while coming home with the car. Was at 60, and it struggled to reach 120 (didn't try anymore); certainly not the 'kick in the pants' I was expecting. It seemed to reach that speed easier in D  with gradual throttle right before the 'flooring'. Will try a top-speed run this week to see what she does.
The MN6 might be a 4.8 sec car, but the 2.73 A4 is in the high 5's at best.
Keep us posted, because if engine sped up, you definitely have a problem.
I had the same problem with my 2001 C5 Coupe, A4 w/2.73. I had the rear R&R'd w/3.42 rear along with LS1 Edit to recal speedo & modify the Torque Management System. I now do not have any problems with downshifting acceleration at high speeds. I believe what ya'll are experiencing is the Torque Management System overriding the engine.
