Check the archives. There are many posts to this topic. I went with the Blackwing because dollar for dollar there is more bang for the buck!

If you purchase or have a hood seal there isn't any problems with getting the filter wet. :yesnod:

It does work, at least for the pre-2000 C5's.

I am a little partical to the Vortex, it was great in 99 when I order mine and it still produces great cfm!

I went with the Blackwing. I really don't think there is much of a difference, performance wise. Also, Blackwing is easier installation and the original airbox can be reinstalled if necessary.

I am happy with the vortex, although it is a little harder to install and remove for cleaning than the blackwing. I would buy another one.

I went with the Vortex, as much for the look, as anything else. My next choice was the Blackwing. Both have reviewed well, and come close to delivering their HP claims. I'm having it dynoed, in a few weeks, but the guy who's going to do it told me that I probably picked up 15 to 20 HP. We'll see.
Where I live, it never rains, so wet is not a concern.

Both kits work very well and we highly recommend both systems as dyno numbers show they offer similar power gains. The question is, do you want cold air and modify (cut) your shroud (Vortex)? Or, no modifying and good gains from a simple bolt on (Donaldson)? If you live where standing water or heavy rains are the normal, I would recomend the Donaldson. If the above is not the case, the Vortex is a good choice. You cant go wrong with either system and the gains are very noticeable!

Nate

Both are plastic, filter and design and at around the $200+ number.

Cold air rules so go Vortex if you want the best performer, though you have to make a cut in the 50 dollar shroud up front. The BW is plug and play. The BW is a non cold air kit but easier to install and offers a 'little' less at the track. Some guys lose sleep over the 'little' some don't. It's your call.

We offer specials on the BW, the Vortex and the Vararam intakes here at Exit 28. If you have any questions, please call, I'd be glad to help.:)

I went with the Donaldson "Blackwing" because I can go back to stock in just a few minutes, if need to.

Botton line, both are excellent choices.
