Any owner with this set? Setting the shocks at lowest soft mode - will this make the ride more comfortable than Bilstein sports? Since the car is llowered, will the shocks bottom out?
Re: HAL adjustable shocks on 2" Lowered Vette (Sportsdude)
TTT for you
......and asking for some appreciated replies as well from the experts here around.
Thanx in advance for any detailled Figures and Facts. Also : where to buy by best price (Shawn, THE LAPD ??), as my F45 setup is nearing the live expectations.......as far as the recent RTD-Damper check goes. Car still under warranty.

Re: HAL adjustable shocks on 2" Lowered Vette (Sportsdude)
1) Since these shocks are not gas-charged like the stockers or Bilsteins, they WILL lower your car from the stock height. If you've already lowered the car, prepare for it to go even lower. Mine dropped about 3/4" just chaning the shocks
2) With the stock FE1 suspension, my car will bottom out over big bumps at speed with any setting below about 3. However, this is pretty rare. I run mine at about 6 or 7 on the street with no bottoming issues.
3) I've had two QA1 shocks rebuilt under warranty in less than a year and less than 20,000 miles. Just an FYI.

What was wrong with them and was a cause of failure identified? Do you happen to know what the cost would have been after warranty? Some salesman once told me expected service life was 100k mi.
Sportsdude, I concur with the comments already made, particularly those related to lowering due to shocks alone. There was another thread concerning adjustable shock options from a few days back that might have some good info to think about.

Re: HAL adjustable shocks on 2" Lowered Vette (ToplessTexan)
See sig, I have the car that low with HAL shocks, keep them at 4 in front and 6 in back for daily driving. Car got a little lower after I put them on. Had them for 20,000 miles now and I love them.
Go for them, they are super easy to adjust, just reach behind each wheel, takes less than 10 seconds after a few times of practice.
Re: HAL adjustable shocks on 2" Lowered Vette (2000^C5)
does your car bottom out at that height? when i have my car that low it rides really harsh and bottoms out in the rear. with the stock shocks i only have about 3/8ths" travel before the car hits the bump stops. how much shorter are the hals?
Re: HAL adjustable shocks on 2" Lowered Vette (Flyin'Brian)
Brian, C5Stein posted a picture of these shocks next to a Bilstein (I believe?) showing the shock body was significantly shorter. Let me see if I can go find it.
EDIT: Oh well I can't find it. I still saw it though :) Maybe one of the other guys can chime in here.
Re: HAL adjustable shocks on 2" Lowered Vette (SwissVette_Joe)
Swiss - I have a 2002 Vert with F45. Extreme Motorsport is installing the HAL adjustable for me so I can lower the car about 2". I was told that if I wanted to revert back to F45, it's not a difficult task.

Re: HAL adjustable shocks on 2" Lowered Vette (ToplessTexan)
Cause of failure wasn't identified- they just told me that they replaced the valving and some other little stuff. They never said how much it would cost to replace, but I got the impression that it wasn't cheap.

I have the QA1s on my car and they are not shorter than the Bilsteins I took off. You need to measure the whole length extended not just the body of it. :yesnod:

Sportsdude
Thanks for your complementary informations re HALs.
Otherwise, my question re "where to buy best" remains still open. Could someone pls chime in to give more infos about actual pricing conditions over the market. Anyone of the highly respected Supporting Tuners and/or Vendors ?
Re: HAL adjustable shocks on 2" Lowered Vette (Sportsdude)
there are 2 problems with the konis if you have a lowered car. 1. they are just as long as the stock shocks, so if you have your car lowered 2" your going to bottom them out all the time. and 2. they are gas charged and will actually raise up your car almost 1/2" from where you had it set with your stock shocks.

Re: HAL adjustable shocks on 2" Lowered Vette (Dylan Savage)
Thanks Dylan,
Hey Brian,
The QA1s (HAL) shocks that we sell for a C5 are 1" shorter than Bilstein Sports both front and rear. We don't sell the regular QA1 fronts as they list in the catalogue because it is the same height as the Bilstein Sport, and most of our customers want to lower the cars.
We have a GP on our Web site for the QA1s at $899.97
We have then instock and ready to ship.
I really like them in combination with the Z06 or Z51 springs and sway bars (which by we also have in stock).
I like the QA1s on the street set on 5. They are so easy to adjust that you will find it very easy to tailor them to you driving style.
I urge people not to make the shock do the springs work by running them extra stiff to make up for a soft spring. As UMRSWMR can attest, the shocks just don't hold up in that configuration.
This is the primary reason why we are developing an economical coil over package using the QA1 and coil over springs. It turns out that our setup is less money than you would spend, buying Z06 springs at the Chevy dealer and adding them to the QA1 shock package. For $1699 our coil overs are a smoking deal. Now on the other hand, if you can round up some Z06 or Z51 springs used, those with the QA1s would be more economical.
