Default 2003 z06 dic code help please

hi - i have three codes that i cannot find on the c5 dic code description webpages i found. if someone can help me out or point me in the right direction it would be appreciated.

group: traction control system
28 - TCS C1282

also, when going through the code groups on the dic, i have a group named "58 - SDM". i don't even see this group. could someone please let me know what this group is (what is SDM?) and what the codes are?

group: unknown
58 - SDM U1000
58 - SDM U1040

all three of these are histories but I am curious what they are.

i wonder if these 2003 codes are new compared to earlier c5s and thats why they are not on the list?? maybe the pages i have been looking at are dated??

i appreciate the help. thanks! :)

C1282 (Anti brake lock System) see your yahoo email.
SDM=Sensing and Diagnostic Module.
Modules connected to the class 2 serial data circuit monitor for serial data communications during normal vehicle operation when operating information and commands are exchanged among the modules. When a module receives a message for a critical operating parameter, the module records the identification number of the module which sent the message. A critical operating parameter is one which, when not received, requires that the module use a default value for that parameter. When a module does not associate an identification number with at least 1 critical parameter within about 5 seconds of beginning serial data communication, DTC U1000 or U1255 is set. The DTC will only be reported once if more than 1 critical parameter does not have a sending module identification number associated with it.
Couldn't find U1040 but you have email on this too.

Hope this helps

First, some of those web based DTC lists appear to be very out of data.

The codes you list are in the manual for the 2001 vehicle as follows:

DTC C1282

There is a full page explanation of this in the manual which I'm NOT going to retype here .... :nonod: but let me give you this shortened description ...

The Vehicle Stability Enhancement System (VSES - also known as Active Handling) is constantly monitoring itself to be sure it is working correctly. It is controlled by the EBCM (Brake Control Module) with input from sensors that tell it steering wheel position, vehicle yaw rate, input from the PCM (Powertrain Control Module) about vehicle speed, from the wheel speed sensors, ... etc.

When the EBCM senses an "error" condition, such as the yaw rate input change is greater than 390 (yes ... 390 ... not 360 ...) degrees per second, or the yaw rate input voltage is less than 0.15 volts or greater than 4.85 volts for 1 second, then it sets DTC 1282 which will turn ON the Traction Control/Active Handling Warning light and will display SERVICE ACTIVE HANDLING in the DIC.

The dealer can pull more data (2 additional characters) from the EBCM with the scan tool that helps them in figuring out what triggered this DTC. Without that, you're looking at a LONG list of possible causes for this DTC.

For the U codes - they are communication errors between the various computer and sensor systems in the car. The car has a serial bus connecting the devices (think of it as your own Local Area Network (LAN) in the car !!) and when one or more computers or devices don't communicate, a U DTC gets set. U1000 is listed as meaning that a critical parameter (a critical parameter is one that a module needs to do its work, otherwise it has to assume a default value) arrived at a module and it did not have an identification number that showed the module that sent the message. The U1040 indicates that at some time (possibly the same time as the other codes set) the EBCM was not communicating on the serial bus with the other computers.

Finally, the SDM is the "Sensing and Diagnostic Module" and it is responsible for managing the air bag system. It also provides (as many have complained about) the last 5 seconds of data about the car prior to an airbag deployment (vehicle speed, throttle position, brake on/off, etc.)

Hope this helps,

Steve
