intermittent start failure
About twice a month my 97 C5 will not turn over with the key turned to start. Doesn't matter if car has been sitting for a period or not. All the electrics fire up with key in acc and it's probably not the clutch switch. If I wait for about five minutes, car magically turns over without me doing anything except turn key to start. Could it be the security system in the key? Are there any other blatantly logical possibilities?

Your magical pellet on the key is not being read properly by the ignition lock cylinder, The car believes that a pass keys is trying to start the car and protecting it from theft. Start by cleaning the key pellet with a good rubber eraser. If that does not help, try to get a new key made with the proper pellet, any good GM service department can do that. If both fail to clear up the problem, you may be looking at having the lock cylinder serviced.
