How does the CD head unit run the CD changer??? I thought that if you had no CD in the head unit, and pushed CD/AUX, it went to the changer .... mine doesnt or hasnt done it yet
the harness came with 2 plugs, I only plugged the one into the taped up harness for the changer, was I suppost to plug in both of them?? (I didnt see a place to plug the other one into  )
Any help is appreciated (I tried to get this answered in the audio section, no luck, and I know my C5 Bruthas can give the answer :D )
Re: CD changer operation/installation???? (Ram Air Tony)
Yes both connectors must be plugged in, one is power and the other does the music and controls. the older cars didn't have this plug and you must run some wires...

OK........my car is a 01 Z06....I guess I will have to look again for a place to plug in the othe connector
Re: CD changer operation/installation???? (Ram Air Tony)
Hi there,
If you check on the plastic bracket that holds the fuse block, below and to the right, you will see a connector fastened into it.
This is the other connector, as you have already found the taped one.
Also, this is for the E&C data line to the changer, and this is the reason that it does not work.

Re: CD changer operation/installation???? (Ram Air Tony)
RAT,
What kind of changer do you have? Is it a factory changer or an aftermarket one? I had to buy the harness from GM but had a spare factory 12-disc changer and it worked great. I just used the CD/Aux button to switch from Radio to the in-dash CD to the changer in that order.
Re: CD changer operation/installation???? (Ram Air Tony)
HI there,
First, remove the plug from the rear of the changer for 1 min, and then reinstall.
Look for the red light inside the changer, and that your magazine is search the 12 locations for the cds.
Please keep us posted, c4c5 :banghead:
Re: CD changer operation/installation???? (C5 StockSwap)
It is a Pioneer factory changer.....from Karshop, so I am sure it is a good piece (unless it got broke on the way to me)
I will go out and unplug it.........I will check to see that the harness didnt get pinched off (would have to be cut cuz electricity will flow even if the wire is bound :yesnod: )
hate it when chit dont work like it is supposed too :mad
Re: CD changer operation/installation???? (Ram Air Tony)
OK
it is getting power, and I have the magazine in the changer, I can see the red light, and hear is TRYING to shuffle through the 12 CDs that I have in the magazine.........and then it just shuts down ... like it is jammed and the magazine will NOT come out :banghead:
how do ya get the dad gum magazine out if it is jammed :mad ????
Re: CD changer operation/installation???? (Ram Air Tony)
Hi there,
Sounds like the feedback to the magazine is not working.
Are the any codes in the Radio???? If you slide the door open, the magazine should eject automatically
As a sidebar, are the screws the correct length that mount the changer to the bracket??? I have seen a few that when too long, jam the magazine in the changer.
If you still cannot get the changer to pop the magazine, remove the mounting screws, and see if it will eject.

Re: CD changer operation/installation???? (c4c5specialist)
C4C5..........I removed them as I saw on the side it showed a diagram of the screw and said "max 6MM" ....... I thought that may be it , but it STILL wont eject the magazine
no codes in the radio cuz it wont even go back to the changer, as I think it is showing no magazine (guess)
Re: CD changer operation/installation???? (Ram Air Tony)
Hi there,
While the changer is searching the 12 slots for the discs, does the icon for the CD flash?? Does it go to a solid icon when the shuffling of the discs are complete>?>>
Do you see an ERR on the radio display?????
As long as the door to the changer is shut, you have the disc icon in the corner of the radio display and it is NOT flashing. I would say that there is an internal problem with the changer.
Normally, there would be a ERR message on the radio if the communications line is seeing something wrong with the changer feedback information.
If not, then I would say that maybe the lazer reading unit may not be seeing something.
Let us know, c4c5 :chevy
Re: CD changer operation/installation???? (c4c5specialist)
OK....yes, when I have it plugged in, and hit CD/AUX the CD icon flashes...I can hear the changer shuffling or trying to shuffle through the 12 CDs that I have in there.........and then it displays the ERR message.....and then about 3 seconds later it goes to the radio and the changer shuts down (like a breaker has flipped or something??
Re: CD changer operation/installation???? (Ram Air Tony)
Ok, well, Im not trying to be a dick, but which way are the labels on your cds facing??? The label side must be facing down in the changer.
I know it sounds weird, but if the cds are facing the correct way, then your changer has an internal malfunction.
Attempt to unplug the back of the changer again, to get the magazine to eject.

Re: CD changer operation/installation???? (c4c5specialist)
c4c5.......I had a changer in my Trans Am, so luckily I remembered to put them in upside down ...... so I am damn near positive that I did that part right :D
it will not eject that puppy no matter what......is there a way to manually remove the magazine (and my 12 CDs :mad ) ..... I think it is jammed (somehow) and that is why it is f'in up the whole shabang :banghead:
Re: CD changer operation/installation???? (Ram Air Tony)
Hi there,
The only way to get the magazine out, is to remove the outer housing cover, and move the linkage tab on the changer body itself, to eject the magazine.
If you look really hard, you will see it on the left side of the changer after you remove the cover.
