Default No more runflats!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am putting on new non-runflat tires and was wondering what to do about the tire sensors.....Is there a way to keep the sensors or do I need to get rid of them....? By the way, I think I am going to get the Kuhmo MX's.

Sensors will work fine. They just hang on the end of the valve stem.

I put on a set of Kumhos a month ago and couldn't be happier. Before that a set of S03s. I can honestly say I would take the run flats off of a brand new car and hope to sell them for something. A good set of non runflats just adds so much to the car.

Kumho MX's are the best tires I have had on my car or experienced while driving other's cars. You will be way happy with them and as said before the sensors work fine.

First of all .. you need to have someone remove the tires that is aware that the wheel has sensors in them.. IT is easy to destroy a sensor of the tire tech rams the tire rod into the sensor.. they are 120 dollars a pop and if you destroy them you will get a code on your DIC,,, .. so you can run non runflats but becareful with the sensors,,, make sure the tire tech knows what he is doing..

Evil-Twin,

Here's question I need to ask. Me and my supervisor was discussing about runflats and he feels that the tire should be replaced, even if the tire was punctured. My question, are runflats repairable?

Secondly, my supervisor also thinks there is a spare tire on the market for Corvettes. I have a Vert 02 and I have not heard of any type of spare tire on the market. Have you?

Thanks!

just for kicks if you cant stop quick enough with a flat, prepare to replace crushed sensor...posted this story before about the Las Vegas Barstow trip. Non-runflat, 11pm, inside lane, tire goes down heavy traffic, side wall comes apart, destroys tire and front fender was damaged from tire schrapnel. Also sensor gone. total repair cost including towing just a tad over 2 grand.

Run flats are repairable, however not by every tire store. Even some Chevy dealer are not equipped to repair them. If there is a spare available for a C5, I've never seen such a post or news of it. Run flats vs. non-run flats is simply a matter of an individuals needs, tolerance for noise and handling and willingness to risk inconvenence in the event of a flat. There is no right or wrong. There is opinion. Just my 2 cents. :chevy

I carry a jack from Frederik, a patch kit and 12 volt compressor. All of that fits in one of the small compartments.

The run flats can be repaired... they will get you home everytime.. Ive plugged my original EMT's two different times... and I drove them for another 25,000 miles with just a plug... and never a problem.. you can dive 55 mph for 200 miles with the EMTs... there is no need for a spare...

That is what I'll be doing now that I have switched to non-runflats. I think I'll bring a folding breaker bar along also. Easier to plug the tire off the car!

Robb, it will probably be great to be rid of those runflats until your non-runflat blows out (I had a blowout in my daily driver '02 V6 Stang last week - no fun, but at least I had a mini-spare).
I can guarantee that it won't be much fun having a low-boy dragging your baby up that towing ramp. :yesnod:
Have you considered other run-flats, such as Michelins or Firestones?

ALL OF THE ABOVE IS TRUE! However what is not mentioned is that Corvettes are NEVER fun to drive WITH run-flats. They are noisy, poor handling and cause a hard ride. You never get the best of both worlds when you compromise and run-flats are a compromise. I'd rather enjoy my Vette when I drive it and if I do get a flat, I'll deal with it then, NOT all the time (if I had run-flats).

When people ask me what there first mod should be on a new Corvette, I tell them to dump the runflats and sell them for what they can get. Better tires just add immesurably to the car.
