I have a ’99 that came without an airbag deactivation switch. I installed the GM Airbag deactivation kit several years ago…but, I never liked the warning light that came with the kit. I ordered a new panel for my center console that had the airbag warning light installed (post’00 model). I quickly learned that the airbag warning light is not a 12 volt light because it burned out in about a day.
The help I need is….Could someone measure the voltage going to their Airbag warning light and let me know what it is? The small panel on the center console is easy to remove: Simply, open the center compartment lid and then pull up on the small panel that has the warning light….It pops right up. Then measure the voltage to the light.

Charley,
I can do that after work...I'll try to post my findings by 6:00. You'll probably just need to insert a series resistor to drop the voltage...later.

With the light ON it measures 2 Volts DC
It uses an LED (I believe) for the indicator so if your other indicator was a 12V bulb you will need to put a resistor in series with the LED to drop the voltage down. A 1K ohm 1/4 or 1/2 watt resistor will drop the voltage down to a safe 2V and 10ma of current. Make sure you hook it up with the correct polarity. Then it won't fry the LED. If you already fried the LED go to Radio Shack and get a replacement.
