I am about to start taking my 2000 C5 to Virginia International Raceway on a regular basis and need some opinions on Tires. I have stock Magnesium Wheels for the track and want to drive to and from the track so Hoosiers are out. I have boiled my choices down to Pirelli P Zero's in the stock size or The Eagle F1 Super car tire that is a little bigger than my stock Tires. Some, like Tire Rack, say the Super Car Tire is too big but I have a friend at a Chevy Dealer that says the Super Car Tire will not rub or touch anything. I sure would appreciate some feed Back because I will be taking the car to the track in less than Two weeks.

Just my opinon but save a bunch of money and buy a set of Kumho MXs. They are good on the highway and are a very very good track tire. I've spent a ton of time on roadcourses and like these tires a lot. IMO they are better than the S03s I had onlast year and that is saying a lot!
Re: Tire Question for Road Racing ??? (Richin Chicago)
Richin,
I do not buy your comparisation of Kumhos and the Hoosier R3S03 :blueangel: The Kumhos are a excellent treaded street tire with very good dry grip AND wet grip, an excellent choice for the seldom roadtrack racer.
The Hoosiers are a shaved track only tire with no(almost, I've tried :D) wet grip. They require correct heatcycling and a lot of camber -2.5 to -3 in front and -1.5 to -2 in rear. Without this you will toast them quickly. With correct settings/heat cycling and a couple of laps to get the Hoosiers to its working temp no street tire comes close in dry grip.

Sorry for the confusion. The tire I was comparing was the Birdgestone S03 street tire.

Re: Tire Question for Road Racing ??? (Mr. Max)
Goodyear makes a DOT race tire but also needs a bunch of camber to survive. No rubbing is not the whole issue. When you pinch the side walls you change the foot print and side wall angle. If the tire pinched by a narrow rim to much it will roll in the corners. That's why CCW reccomends a 12" rim for 315 not 11 like the GS rim he said it handles better.
