Default Another idiot-boy mechanic question.

Car's on stands as we speak. Just changed the oil for the first time myself! Thanks for the info on that one, brothers. Took the wheels off to clean suspension/wheel wells. Wheels are back on, lug nuts are HAND TIGHTENED. Question is-do I torque them while the car is in the air, or drop the car and THEN tighten them? Thanks again, fellas.

You do that on the ground otherwise the wheels turn.

Torque them on the ground, drive around, and then check the torque again.

I torque while in the air the best I can, then lower until I can block the wheel with a piece of wood and then do the final torque. Sid.

It's a good idea to re-torque your lugs about once a month just for laughs, imho.
