Default Hurst shifter, locking in 4th anyone have this problem?

No hard shift but when I went to shift to 5th shifter moved and was a bit stiff but nothing in the transmission moved. Finally cleared it but it feels like it wants to catch something only in 4th.

Amandasguy had the joy of the little bolts moving on his Hurst on our Mountain Cruise and his car could not get out of 4th gear. There are supposed to be 2 adjustment bolts which you can take out or lockdown. I will try to find the thread.

Couldn't find the thread, but the just of it was there are 2 bolts which need to be loctite or removed as they slowly tighten themself with the vibration and will cause your car to be unable to enter 1 - 3 - 5 and if it keeps tightening, before you fix it, you will end up getting stuck in 2 - 4 - 6 (whichever gear you are in at the time).

I'm sure someone else can chime in with more details.

The shift lever moves through range it's just nothing in the trany seems to be moving, like a coupling is loose.

I'm sorry I can't help more, but it seems to me that if the screws came out, then there would be no problem because some people just remove them anyway. If one goes in instead of coming out, then you might not be able into 1st, 3rd, or 5th...or 2nd, 4th, or 6th depending on which one was involved...and might get locked into one gear...so it wouldn't hurt to check them out. But so far it seems that you're only having the problem with one gear so it might be something else. At one point I started having problems getting into 5th and it started grinding and the dealer had to replace the synchros.

Well it's inside the trany, in fact there is a bulletin out on that symptom. There are 4 symptoms, number one being can't get out of 4th. There isn't a list of parts but according to the tech there are a group of parts that can yield that problem. Unit is being tore down tomorrow to see what went wrong. Parts that were ordered won't be here till Monday so stuck with something that I have to roll the windows up by hand.

Also, don't through away your stock shifter. There is a sighting tab on the housing that is necessary to re-align the shift rods when they reassemble. If you don’t it’s trial and error and luck.

Found the broken guild on the scavenger magnets inside transmission. Will finish takeing apart the transmission on Monday. Also, throwout bearing bad, 40,300 miles. This is the same mileage the bearing went on my 2000. Plus out side seals on rearend have to be replaced do to leaking, apparently common problem. It was mentioned on another thread that the rear end fluid can't have the antislip additive in California do to it being a hazardous material, they were right. Tech said he has one bottle of it and will put it in on refile.
