As mush as I like my C5, its not an easy car to drive fast once moded for more power compared to others I’ve had. I have all the basic bolt-ons, and with 295 tires and a super yank TQ, when you get on it and have to pass someone around a curve, the tail gets squirrely and some times I have to compensate for the over steer. I make it fine and don’t loose control, but what a sight and surely wets the pants of the other drive as it looks like the big booty of the C5 might smack him. Would larger (zo6) sways help? I think when at or near WOT on a pretty mild curve, the A4 just puts on the tourque too fast and all at once with the high stall converter?
Re: Moded C5 Hard to handle the twisties? (TexCorvette)
The A4 is good in traffic and for drag racing. If you must take turns at speed, leave it in 2nd and avoid suprises. This is why I sold my 2000 C5 and purchased the MN6

I agree, it is very hard to know and compensate for when the car shifts gears on an A4. I have driven my fathers car in autocrossing a lot and I was able to get around the problems in an A4, but my MN6 does so much better around the autocross.

:iagree: MN6 only way to :steering: in the twisties

ive done a few 180s on the autocross tracks with my A4. And yall is right it is hard to get a handle on when it is goiong to shift, or even trying to down shift. It takes a bit, but you can get it right.

Same here. Unexpected downshifts are the worse, but don't underestimate the attention getting factor of mid-sweeper throttle-lift (for unexpected reason), no load = upshift inducing oversteer, felt like a Porsche!
Re: Moded C5 Hard to handle the twisties? (Stu in CA)
Well without traction control, it can't even go straight, so I guess a curve under throttle is a bit much with the A4  but she does run poeple down in the 1/4 with just a few mods :D
Re: Moded C5 Hard to handle the twisties? (TexCorvette)
Just got to program the tranny tight and do some practice. I can call the downshifts at will now. Just have to get the hang of it. I am geared for autocross so I am running the 2:73 gear set with the A4 on the shorter autocross tracks I never get out of first gear. On the slightly longer tracks I get to second. On the road courses, I det all the way to the top of third. The trick is to control the shifts and understand how to do that. For example down shifting into the corner. You can move the shifter from third to second, get hard on the brakes and then call for the shift by blipping the throttle quickly and the down shift will hook up. No more work than heel toeing a downshift and the brakes all at the same time, as we have done in the past with the manuals.
