I need to replace rotors. To remove them you take off the brake calipers, then have to remove the caliper mounting bracket. It has 2 large bolts holdin it to the spindle. First off do I need to heat these bolts before removing them. They seem extremely tight. Also my service manual says that the bolts must be replaced, is this necessary?
Thanks for the help
Yes, they are very tight (125 ft/lbs) & Yes, I would replace them, they are only a few bucks each. The new ones come with locktite on them.
Front - Turn your steering wheel all the way to the right to remove the left caliper bracket and vice versa for the other side. This will allow you to get a long breaker bar on the bolt to break it loose. Mine came off without too much trouble.
Rear - Put the front all back together and put the tires back on. You need to raise the back up as far as possible and break them loose from the bottom because there isn't much room to work from the side.
Front and rear bracket bolts should be torqued to 125 ft/lbs.
I think you can leave the caliper attatched jsut pry the pistons back in. I use a 1/2" 18mm imapct socket to remove the bolts. I think 18mm is right. Then replace rotor and use blue loctite 242 to reinstall them.
