Water leak -HELP!!!
I got caught in a severe downpour on my way home this evening and discovered I have leaks on both sides where the top meets the windshield pillars. The leak is where the weather stripping on the top meets the windshield weather strip. The weather stripping is in perfect shape, no tears or holes. My questions are:
1. Is this an adjustment problem? (top, windows??)
2. Is this a fix I can do? (I am mechanically inclined)
3. If it's a dealer fix, what should I tell them specifically? (Out of warranty so I would like to avoid the dealer if possible)
Thanks in advance to any and all replies. :flag :seeya
Hard to say without seeing it. It is possible to have the weatherstripping out of spec. Look it over carefully to see if it can be "adjusted" in any way to improve the fit. It had this problem, but iut was at thr rear of the top panel. It might also require a window adjustment. Good luck. :)
Is water running down the inside of the glass,or is it dripping on the seat or door panel???
If it is running down the glass, chance are that the window needs to be adjusted in and possibly slightly up...
If it is dripping on the seats, water is leaking in behind the w/strip (between the w/strip and w/strip channel)...The factory w/strips are not glued in place, some times allowing water to get in behind them. You can remove the foward w/strip on the top and apply a bead of 3M w/strip adhesive in the channel, also making sure you get some sealer in the front corner (under the w/strip) because this is where the leak commonly occurs...
