Default 3:42 Question

Guys, I just got my 3:42 from SLPonline.com delivered today. The box says its made by Getrang??. Anyway, it came in a very large box which held a much smaller box in which the gears are actually in. I noticed that the 3:42 is actually covered in a plastic bag and it appears to have alot of oil around coating it. I'm assuming this is to keep the gears well lubricated until it's installed. I just wanted to make sure. Is this normal? In any case, I'll have to put it in several plastic bags before I put in the back of my vert!! I'll probably get it installed next week and reprogramed with a predator diablo. Thanks

First - Getrang makes all the Corvette gears. It's okay.

Second - The oil is a preservative to keep the gears from rusting while they are in storage, transit, whatever. Go to Petco, purchase a can litter pan for $5 and place the differential in that to keep oil off your carpet.

Thanks, Captain Picard. I'm going to have to drive to New Orleans, which is about 90 miles away, to have this installed. The box is alittle too high, I believe, to sit in the back of the vert with the trunk lid down, so I'll investigate your suggestion. I'll probably just wrap it in about three or four plastic bags to make sure oil doesn't seep out. It would have been a whole lot easier if I'd have known to get the performance axle in the first place. I hope the 3:42 is as good as everyone says!!!

Second; not exactly correct. Getrag does not make the 3.90 or 4.10 gear sets for the C5. Minor clarification.

The green grease is like a break-in lube; it's normal... and it smells to HIGH HEAVEN!!!

one minor point...

the ratio (as I understand it) means that for every 3.42 revolutions of the engine the wheels make one revolution. So I believe it is 3.42 and not 3:42, 4.11 and not 4:11, etc. ;)
