I think you guys are missing another dilemma. If I have to shift, then I have to take my hand off my sweeties knee or put down my coffee. :lolg:
Yes, my performance suffers greatly while talking on the cell phone. I hit the rev limitor all the time...Its like chewing gum and walking. Just can't do two things at once. :) If I had an auto, :yesnod: looook out.

I would not put "Killer A-4" and "12 Second Club" together.

I've always liked the argument for automatics because it leaves your gun hand free :skep:

However, I'm a lover, not a fighter, therefore it's a 6 for me :steering:

If you drive in stop and go traffic a lot, are physically unable to drive a manual, or plan to drag race the car competitively, then consider an A4. If you want to road raxe, auto-x, or just carve up your favorite back road then there is no question (in my opinion) that you want a 6spd. The driving experience with a 6spd (to me) is so much better than an A4 ever could be. In the end its your money. Buy what makes you happy.

You have some nice times there but there are a few 6-speed guys running 10.7's with just head/cams and stock internals. Honestly I am not trying to start a war but you are spraying a 150 shot with good gearing and stall, but those are very good times for an internally stock motor.

Oh this argument again.
Same mods?
How am I gonna put a converter and trans-go on my 6 speed? :D :jester

Seriously though the A4 is great for competitive drag racing.
However IMO the 6-speed is generaly more capable all around.
I will take the slight disadvantage when running the 1/4.
I will just attempt to make up for it with driving (and I do need practice)
Where I drive not all the roads are perfectly straight.
I will never ever give up my manual tranny.
Having to compensate for a reduced launching capability from a stop is an acceptable tradeoff.
Having my car decide to down shift whilst pulling high G turn. :nono:
That is not acceptable to me. It is just a personal preference.

This is food for thought : Why do you suppose a Z06 only comes in a 6 speed :D :D :D

You folks have it all wrong. The MN6 is all about CONTROL, not lower ETs.

The big difference is out on the road. Try to keep an A4 from dropping into 1st when all you wanted to do is hold 2nd and roll in full throttle at 35 MPH. Do that in a turn and you'll come to appreciate the MN6 or AH. I saw a 98 w/o AH do that and the car came around right in front of me.

I want to control the car and chose a manual.

Tom

For a Drag car I would rather have an Automatic any day. But for everything else .... you need a six speed. Nothing like blipping that throttle on a 4 to 3 downshift :yesnod: :yesnod:

copied directly from the Chevrolet website:

Acceleration Specifications (1) Coupe Convertible Z06
0–60 mph, Man. Trans. (sec.) 4.6 (manual), 4.9 (auto) 3.9 (manual)
Braking, 60-0 mph (ft.) 125
Top Speed (kph/mph)(2) 281.6 / 175 275.2 / 171
1/4-mile manual (sec./mph) 13.22 / 109 mph 12.4 / 116
Lateral Acceleration (g) 0.93 1.00
Coefficient of Drag (cd) 0.29 0.33 0.31
1 Data generated during closed-course development testing and provided for reference purposes only. Actual results may vary depending upon equipment, road surfaces, altitudes, temperatures and other variables.
2 Top speed is reached in 5th gear on manual-equipped cars.

Some interesting stats....the Z06 is the slowest at 171 mph....the coupe is most aerodynamic...

heres the link to the webpage....its easier to read:

The A4 tranny probably can not be warranted in Z06 trim. I recall reading somewhere that the A4 is not rated to handle much more horse power (400rwhp limit). We have that torque handicap__ "I mean" management system which many elect to have eliminated via tuning.
Personally, my vette is a daily driver & I love popping out the hole at red lights (w/in reason). I am not going to be driving in the street to the point that my tranny selection is going to make a difference. Like many vette owners, its the occasional peelout & knowing I have the power that tickles me. BTW I love all vettes...
