Actually, check the markets in your area for "purified" water that has been filtered by reverse osmosis. This is about as close to pure water as you'll get this side of a laboratory. Just check the labels, it'll say so if it is. I know Great Bear puts it out, and I'm sure others do also. I buy mine at Shoprite. If you can't find it in stores, check the local pet stores that sell salt water fish and specialize in reef aquariums. They sometimes sell RO water too, but at a higher price.
Good timing on this as I am going to flush the radiator this weekend:
As I understand it, you drain the coolant from the radiator (which leaves half of it in because you can't drain the block). Then you fill it back up with water, run until the t-stat opens, cool, drain, re-fill, warm-up, cool, drain, refill and repeat as necessary until the fluid runs clear. At that point you are at 50% capacity (all water) so you add the coolant just up over the low mark on the reserve tank?
Are you supposed to use the distilled water when flushing, draining, re-filling, draining, etc? That's the only way I can think of to end up with the distilled water in the radiator. Am I missing something? Thanks!
