First off I know this subject is not C5 related but I think it is the best place to get technical data on this forum. I am trying to get some info on how I should go about building a Ford Lightning beating Silverado. My plans are to purchase a 03 2 door 2wd Silverado and make it push around 500 HP. I don't know a whole lot about the Silverado engine other than I believe it is an LS1 block. I would like to add either a Paxton or a Kenny Brown SC. I guess my questions for you guys is.
1. Should I stay with the engine that comes with the Silverado for a base or buy a Z06 crate?
2. Will the Silverado tranny hold that power?
3. What do I need as far as suspension to make it agile and stable as the Lightning?
4. I would like to add the Vette look-alike tailgate with the 4 circle lights, dose anyone know where I can find it?
I have also added a post below so that you can give me your opinion on weather this is a waste of money and time.
Go to the V8 Truck section on ls1tech. There are several 6.0L trucks running hard. I have a video of a 4x4 with a whipple charger and a 75 shot of gas running 11.90s.
There are quite a few FI kits for the 6.0L engines. And with some tuning, and porperly planned upgrades, you should be in Lightning territory.
If your going to build one from scratch, ie. LS1 block, tranny etc. it'll cost you a small fortune, unless your planning on completing most of the work yourself.
Or your best option IMO, is buy a Lightning itself. The potential with chips and bolt on's is staggering. And all of this with a manufacturers warranty!

Im assuming the poster is alluding to a 1500 series Gm truck. As far as I know, the only Gm vehciles you can get the 6.0 liter engine in from the factory are the Cadillac Escaldes/Trucks, the Chevy Avalanch, and the 3/4 ton and up GMC/Chevy trucks and the H2 Hummer.
The only 1/2 Gm ton 6.0 liter truck is the 2003 Extended Cab Chevy SS truck.
The GMC and Chevy 1/2 ton trucks max out at 5.3 Liter Gen III motors.
Of course any variant of the GEN III motors could be dropped into a GM truck easily.
Of course if I had an extra $50,000 lying around I would buy the SRT-10 but if I am going to spend that much I would rather have a Silverado that runs 11s not a Dodge that runs 14s.
I don't believe the 6.0 is available in the 1/2 ton but I may be mistaken. I will do all the work myself excluding tuning and reprogramming.
Anyone have any ideas on the suspension and the tranny? Those are the two I am most concerned about.

I would suspect with the 500+ HP V10, the Dodge would likely be running low 13's stock. Likely grip away from 12's.
