When the C5 first came out there was a rumor that you could increase felt resistence, but that is not the case. I race and autobahn, I've taken curves at the Nurburgring at 110mph, lane changes at 130+mph, and done 179mph on the autobahn the steering feels fine to me. How much harder do you want it, what are you feeling that you don't like? I've had two near professional Porsche racers drive it and they both commented on the steering feel as being very good.
I have an audi tt which has way harder steering feel. It might suck in parking but feels way more secure when going fast. In vette you start losing control around 140-150. Can it be done with a spring or something like that??

If you are truly losing control around 140-150 then something is wrong, I do 130-150 all day on autobahns 62, 48, and 60. She is just as solid and stable at 170+ as she is at 140. At Hokenheim ring I hit 140 before slamming the brakes for a 30mph U-turn, she is stable. Maybe you should get it checked out by a dealer.
I asked this question a while back, and didn't receive any solution.
I've read that with the TECH II that Magnasteer could be adjusted, but have never seen any proof of it. And I've asked a few with a TECH II and they've never heard of such a thing, and wouldn't know how to do it.
On my 1999 Regal GS, I unplugged my Magnasteer completely. It tightend up the steering on the parkway slightly, but around town it make a big difference. I've been told it's not as easy to disable on the C5.
Since the steering firmness is set by electronic can it be fooled into thinking it is all ready doing 80 mph at 25 mph?
This is exactly what I want! You shouldn't be able to turn a sports car going 10 MPH with one pinky finger!!!
Welcome to the modern world, they all are like this now, after tires started getting very wide the companies had to put power steering in the cars. Then everyone complained about loss of feel, so they came up with varible boost. I auto-xed this past weekend in my Z06 with the PCA of Germany, and I did some in the president's '03 Carrera with GT-3 suspension. The Carrera's steering was almost the same as mine. I'm going to test drive a '95 993 RUF BTR today. I'll let you know how the steering felt.
The '95 RUF was great, engine has titainium con rods and light flywheel it revs like crazy!!!!!!!!!!!!! This car has a RUF specific steering and a smaller diameter steering wheel, and was not much more heavy than the Z06, our vettes have great steering.
You know the mags have always loved the Boxter's steering, but that car has skinny tires compared to the monsters out there, just an observation.
No no no I completely disagree. I believe the steering is a mess in corvettes. There are lots of problems. Should I start with that huge steering wheel or more importantly its light feeling? I had chance to drive quite a few sports cars and most of them have a stable feeling which vettes lack. I also wonder why they wrote that the steering is adjustable in the manual and sell cars that does not have that option? :mad :mad :mad :mad :mad
Unless something is wrong with your car, you never did qualify the unstable at 140mph statement, it's just personal preference, I have driven many high performance cars, and I had a few Porsche engineers and racers drive my car. I like the Porsche steering, and one of them loved the vette steering (he took a lap around the Nurburgring!)
You say, "There are lots of problems." What are these problems? Do you know for sure if your alignment is correct? Also, do you race the car or only street drive? If you race do you have a harness or seat that keeps you from having to hold on the wheel tight?
Re: how to make steering more stable? (Kenny94945)
don't think anything is wrong like alingment or anything else since my buddys vette is the same bs. I guess I am pissed because it becomes too sensitive when going at high speeds. I saw the FF2 today, I wonder if there is an aftermarket wheel with a smaller diameter that will look good on a vette?
I agree with CPT. Z06. If a C5 has a proper wheel alignment the steering will be rock solid past the speeds you are talking about. I have driven several open track events per year since 1997 with my car and have not found the steering to be any problem at all. Originally the car had a tendency to wander on highway pavement seams and depressions but that was not due to the steering but to the run flat tires and not enough toe in. I have always found the C5 steering feel to be very good. I would not want it any stiffer than it is. Maybe you got used to something that wasn't as good and and are having a hard time adjusting.

tt there is nothing wrong with the Corvette stearing. You either have something totally misadjusted or broken or heaven forbid you need driving lessons. :banghead:

:iagree: I can't tell the difference between 120 and 179, and like I said that 95 RUF with a 14inch (small) wheel its steering was just a little firmer. Can you quantify what you are talking about???
