Default Water in??

Anyone had a bad experience of water going in beacuse of aftermarket air intake? Since I live in a rainy city like chicago and drive my car all the time I wonder if it si safe to put an air intake. Which one would be better Varam or Vortex? :steering:

There have been incidents of water ingestion, but not from driving in the rain. These happened when the car was driven through standing water.

Yup, I agree with SS. I have one of the lowest you can get, a early Hall-Tech and there has been a lot of discussion. I can tell you that I have been in some pretty heavy down-pours and no ingestion problems at all.

Having said that, standing water can be a problem, especially if you get on it, while you are in the puddle, then there is a good chance that you will take some water.

If you look, your tires are behind the front airdams, and any water thrown forward or inward from the tires is behind your intake or shielded. as for the rain, rain can't fall up! :jester as long as the filter is mounted properly you should have no problems.

I know Hall-Tech changed their design since I bought mine! Mine has worked well over the last four years and 70K+miles. In N. Cal it does not rain all summer, but we catch some significant rain in the winter sometimes for weeks on end. I know I raced home one day this past winter (in some severe rain) to drain my pool to keep it from over flowing, and my pump could not drain the pool as fast as the rain was falling (20K gal pool). and the car did not ingest any water even at highway speeds of 70 MPH.

Just watch the puddles and drains, now they can getcha.

I am lowered about 1"1/2.

I decided to go with the Blackwing B/C of the potential hydrolock problem. For instance, I was driving to work today and I could not avoid many puddles that splashed up water as I was traveling 50 mph on the highway. I can see avoiding puddles in parking lots or when your driving slow but on the highway with 3 lanes of cars your not always going to avoid them. I went through a couple where I said to myself, "If the Vortex was on I think I would be in trouble". Just my thoughts. Good luck with your decision. :seeya
